Police Issues Strong Warning to Herdsmen and Youths Over Killings and Arson In Ondo
The Ondo State Police Commissioner, Abayomi Oladipo, has issued a strong warning to herdsmen and youths in Uba/Eshimeri Akoko and Aduloju camp, Akoko South West, to stop killings and arson in the community.
Commissioner Oladipo vowed to bring to justice those responsible for the murder of farmer Sunday Ayeni and the arson attack on Aduloju camp.
Sunday Ayeni, a farmer, was killed by suspected herdsmen after they were made to pay compensation for destroying his farm. This led to tension in the community, causing farmers to abandon their farms and residents to flee in fear.
Women in the community protested half-naked to the palace of the Olubaka of Oka, demanding justice for the victim and an end to herdsmen attacks. Youths in the community retaliated by setting the Fulani camp in Aduloju ablaze.
Commissioner Oladipo visited the community to assess the situation and warned both herdsmen and youths to stop the violence.
He stated, “On Sunday, 1100hrs, a case of murder was reported at Oka division that a young man who is a farmer went to the farm and did not return, a search party was sent to the farm to trace his movement but his corpse was discovered along the farm road path, with his intestines out and suspected to have bled to death from a stab.”
He also noted that “On the same day, the Sarki of Ikare Akoko also reported that youths suspected to be Uba Akoko indigenes attacked Fulani settlements at Aduloju camp.”
The police commissioner deployed personnel to intervene and prevent further crises in the area.
