Biography

Omawumi was born on 13 April 1982. Her parents are Chief Dr Frank and Mrs Aya Megbele and she is of the Itsekiri ethnicity. Omawumi had her primary education at Nana Primary School and later attended the College of Education Demonstration Secondary School.

She studied Law at Ambrose Alli University and graduated in 2005. After then, she moved to Port Harcourt, Rivers State where she worked with her family’s Law firm, O.S Megbele & Associates. Later on, she decided to further her education and she studied French at Alliance Francaise.

In May 2007, Omawumi rose to prominence following her position as the first runner-up in the Idols West Africa competition. Ever since, she has had various stage performances with musicians such as 2Face, Phyno, P-Square, Banky W, 9ice, Angelique Kidjo, Donell Jones, and many more.

In September 2008, Omawumi released her debut single In The Music and released several albums and singles after then.

Omawumi has performed with several star artists and even had collaborations, features and so on from them.
