Oleg Deripaska was born in Dzerzhinsk, Soviet Russia, on January 2, 1968. He spent his childhood on his family’s farm in Ust-Labinsk. He began working as a child at the Ust-Labinsk plant, where his mother worked. He became an electrician’s apprentice when he was 11 years old.
At the age of 17, he enrolled at Moscow State University, where he excelled in mathematics. After a year, he was drafted into the military. In 1993, he returned to finish his physics degree. Deripaska also received a master’s degree in economics from Plekhanov University in 1996.
