Noah Okafor was born on May 24, 2000, to a Nigerian father and a Swiss mother. Although he was born in Binningen, Switzerland, Okafor is of Igbo descent, in Nigeria.

Career History

FC Basel

Noah Okafor began football with FC Arisdorf before moving to FC Basel youth at the age of 9 to continue all the stages of his youth academy with them. During their 2018-2019 season, Okafor signed his first contract with FC Basel under the leadership of the head coach, Raphaël Wicky.

The young footballer made his debut with the team in May 2018 in a home game against FC Luzern. He joined the game via substitution for the injured Mohamed Elyounoussi in the 34th minute; the game ended with a 2-2 draw. It was not until the second round of the 2018-2019 season that Okafor scored his first goal in a match against Xamax.

During that season, Basel won the Swiss Cup and Okafor played in 4 Cup games within which he scored a goal in a semi-final against fellow Swiss club, Zürich.

Between 2017 and 2020, Okafor already had 9 goals to his name in a total of 72 games for Basel. These games included the Swiss Super League, Swiss Cup, the UEFA competitions (Champions League and Europa League) as well as other friendly games.

Red Bull Salzburg

Having signed with the team on January 31, 2020, Okafor is over two years old with his current Austrian Bundesliga club, Red Bull Salzburg. Okafor scored the single goal that led to his club’s win against Sevilla in the final group stage match of the Champions League on December 8, 2021.

Because of his goal, Salzburg progressed to the Round of 16, becoming the first-ever Austrian club to qualify for the Champions League knockout stages.

International Career

Noah Okafor has played several international games so far. He played several international games for the Swiss U-15 and U-17 teams. His debut in the senior national team was in the 2019 UEFA Nations League third-place game against England. He came in as a 113th-minute substitute for fellow Swiss footballer, Haris Seferovic.

Okafor scored his first international goal for Switzerland in their World Cup qualifying game against Bulgaria on November 15, 2021. Their win secured automatic qualification for the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar.
