Some Nigerian politicians made their money from politics while some are wealthy even before they came into politics.

Being wealthy makes it easy for someone to enjoy luxury, and one of these luxuries is owning a private jet. Here’s a  list of the top 10 Nigerian politicians that has one or more private jets:

10. Theophilus Yakubu Danjuma

Theophilus Yakubu Danjuma (born 9 December 1938) is a politician and retired Nigerian army lieutenant general who played a key role in post-independence military and political events in Nigeria. Danjuma amassed an enormous fortune through shipping and petroleum. He was Chief of Army Staff from July 1975 to October 1978. He was also Minister of Defence under President Olusegun Obasanjo’s administration.

Theophilus Yakubu Danjuma is a wealthy Nigerian businessman and politician. He flies a Hawker 900XP Hawker private jet and is also the owner of a Challenger 605 Bombardier. He served as the Minister of Defence during the tenure of President Olusegun Obasanjo. He is also a retired Nigerian Army Lieutenant General and a former Chief of Army Staff.

Chief Godswill Obot Akpabio  ( born 9 December 1962) is a Nigerian lawyer and politician who is currently serving as the 15th president of the Nigerian Senate since 2023. He served as Senator representing Akwa Ibom North-West Senatorial District from 2015 to 2019 and since 2023. He also served as minister for Niger Delta Affairs from 2019 to 2022. He previously served as governor of Akwa Ibom State from 2007 to 2015

He is the former Minister of the Niger Delta, a former Senator of the Federal Republic of Nigeria and the Senate’s Minority Leader.

Ali Modu Sheriff (born 1956) is a Nigerian politician who served as governor of Borno State from 2003 to 2011. He was the first governor to serve two consecutive terms and was once a member of the House of Assembly.

He is a wealthy politician with various properties. He is often reported to own a fleet of four private jets consisting of one Gulfstream G650 and three Dorniers.

He is a Nigerian politician, he served as the Federal Minister of Transportation of Nigeria from 2015 to 2022 under the cabinet of President Muhammadu Buhari. He resigned to contest for Nigeria’s presidency under the ruling All Progressive Congress (APC). He previously served as governor of oil-rich Rivers State from 2007 to 2015 and Speaker of the Rivers State House of Assembly from 1999 to 2007. On 9 April 2022, Amaechi declared his interest to contest in the Presidential election in 2023, he came second in the APC presidential primaries held in June 2022 behind Bola Tinubu with 316 votes from the delegates.

He has always been persecuted for using public funds for acquiring his private jets, however, Rochas Okorocha always insists he bought his jets before becoming a governor.

When it comes to attending business meetings and travelling amongst countries, Atiku Abubakar enjoys the luxury of his private jet. He also owns an Embraer Phenom 100 private jet worth $4.1 million.

3. Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida

Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida is a businessman and politician who served as Nigeria’s military president from August 1985 to August 1993. Born on 17th August 1941, former President Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida is a native of Niger State. He also owns 65% of the London-based Fruitex International Limited in London, and 24% of Nigeria’s second-largest telecom company, Globacom. He is a wealthy billionaire with expensive cars and properties within and outside Nigeria. He also flies a Learjet 45 worth ₦594.7 million.

2. Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu

Bola Ahmed Tinubu is one of the iconic and well-known politicians in Nigeria. He once served as the governor of Lagos state and is the 16th and current President of Nigeria. His wife, Oluremi Tinubu is a senator representing Lagos Central District. She is one of the longest-serving senators in the National House of Assembly. It is reported that Bola Ahmed Tinubu has two private jets worth billions of naira.

Orji Uzor Kalu was already wealthy before he became a senator in Nigeria. He is the CEO of SLOK Holdings, which has many interests in shipping, banking, oil trading, and more. He is also the owner of two newspapers: the daily sun and the new telegraph. He was a former senator representing Aba Constituency and served as the governor of Abia State two consecutive times. He owns various private jets, one of which is worth a little over N11 billion. His fleet of private jets includes one Gulfstream G650, one Bombardier’s Global EXP XR and three Gulfstream IV.
