New technologies will lower the cost of 5G smartphones in Nigeria – MediaTek
The company claims that ongoing advances in chip technology have made it simpler and quicker for mobile manufacturers to produce new phones.
In the coming years, Nigeria and other African nations will be able to purchase 5G smartphones for less because of the introduction of new technologies, according to MediaTek, a worldwide fabless semiconductor business.
The company claims that ongoing advances in chip technology have made it simpler and quicker for mobile manufacturers to produce new phones.
The Director for Corporate Sales and Marketing, MediaTek Middle East and Africa, Rami Osman, said the pricing of 5G devices is now close to that of 4G because the manufacturers do not need to invest much in research and development as they use easily available processors.
Osman provided an explanation of why smartphones are expensive in Nigeria, adding that a number of factors affect the price. Says Osman

“So, there are elements that increase the price, including logistics; the cost of aviation, the cost of shipping, different types of taxes, and how easy it is for the OEMs to get their money out of the country since there are restrictions on USD transactions and sometimes there’s an overhead on this.”
He added that new flagship CPUs coming to market will aid in producing 5G devices that are better and more reasonably priced.
“The NextGen 5G smartphones powered by MediaTek’s Dimensity 9000 chipset technology will be a game-changer for smartphone users in Nigeria. This chip marks a turning point for MediaTek by demonstrating our rise to the exceptional with a genuine 5G smartphone chip. This chip indicates a new stage in innovation for MediaTek and the Dimensity family,” he said.
