Legendary American singer and songwriter, Ne-Yo, has revealed his intentions to collaborate with Nigerian artists such as Wizkid, Burna Boy, Tems and Ckay.

He said this on Wednesday during a press conference with Flytime music, as he was set to headline the music festival on the same night.

Speaking at the conference, he stated that he never knew he had such a fan base in Lagos.

“I remember being pleasantly surprised the first time I came to Lagos, Nigeria. I genuinely had no idea that I had such an amazing fan base here,” he said.

The R&B singer then talked about the Nigerian style of music, afro beats, and his intention to delve into the genre.

He said, “For me to sit with producers and go and be like, ‘Let’s do some afrobeat today’, I’ll feel like an imposter.

“If I want to get into it, I want to be invited by an artiste who’s already there. Let me feature on an artist who’s already there or I get an artist who’s already there to feature on something of mine, so that’s authentic and real.

“I’ll love to collaborate with some African artists. Wizkid is on the list, Tems is on the list, Burna Boy is on the list, and Ckay is on the list.

“I’m just waiting on a phone call basically. I don’t have anybody’s number for me to call. I’m waiting for them to call me.”

Recall that  Ne-yo had previously revealed in an interview with the American entertainment magazine, NME that he wished he was the one who wrote Wizkid global hit song, Essence.

His words: “Essence is one of those records that just makes sense. They could run it back 17 times and you wouldn’t say nothing. I wish that I’d have thought of it first.

“I met him once, real quick guess he wouldn’t remember but I’m super proud of that dude for making the moves that he’s making. He’s one of the new generations that I can genuinely say I respect.”
