Most Expensive Universities In Nigeria? – Nigeria has a total of 169 accredited Universities, all of which are sponsored and headed by different entities across the state. These Universities are no doubt one of the best on the continent, in terms of quality education and infrastructure. They are also funded and founded by different entities such as the Federal and state governments and private individuals, and corporate and religious bodies.

As it is everywhere in the world, universities funded by the government are known as public universities and are relatively cheaper compared to those funded by private individuals as the majority of their services are subsidized by the government. Universities by other entities aside from the government are known as private universities, these institutions are the most expensive universities in the country.

However, according to a 2019 survey, the school fees of Nigerian private universities range from one school to another depending on the academic and non-academic privileges enjoyed by students. For example, some of these Universities provide food for the students in addition to basic academic needs.  This led us to compile a list of the most expensive universities in Nigeria, all of which are not surprisingly private universities.

With an average fee of N795,000, the American University of Nigeria takes tenth place among the most expensive universities in Nigeria.  The institution was founded in 2003 and is noted as Africa’s first “Development University” by numerous authoritative sources, as it offers an American-styled liberal art higher education at undergraduate, graduate, and professional levels.

The university located in Yola the capital of Adamawa, consists of six schools, offering the following undergraduate majors and graduate programs. It is also home to approximately 1,400 undergraduate students and 87 faculty members. It is one of the largest universities in the country with over 2,400 hectares of landmass.

The institution was founded on 17 July 2001 by the Nigerian Baptist Convention and was subsequently licensed to operate by the National Universities Commission in the same year.

The institution is made up of 41 academic departments organized into 7 colleges. It runs both undergraduate and postgraduate programs. Undergraduate. Bowen’s main campus located in  Iwo, Osun State is home to more than 4,500 students and 10,000 alumni.

Ekiti State-based private University, Afe Babalola takes eighth place among the most expensive Universities in Nigeria, with an average fee of 838,900 per year. The institution was founded by a lawyer and philanthropist named Afe Babalola, in 2009. Afe Babalola University offers Academic programs in six Colleges: Sciences, Law, Engineering, Social and Management Sciences, Medicine and Health Sciences, and Postgraduate Studies.

The university operates a collegiate system and has five major colleges. They are the College of Engineering, College of Medicine and Health Sciences, College of Sciences, College of Law, and College of Social and Management Sciences. Some of the colleges offer postgraduate programs in some departments.

7. Gregory University

With an average tuition fee of over N900,000, Gregory University takes seventh place among the top 10 most expensive universities in Nigeria. The institution was established in 2012 in Uturu, Abia State. It was named after  Pope Gregory I, the bishop of Rome from 3 September 590 to 12 March 604.

The University operates a collegiate system, consisting of eight colleges and over 30 departments. Gregory University is presently an academic home for over 2000 students. According to the school website, its mission is to produce God-fearing, ethically sound, and highly skilled global leaders who shall be catalysts for technological and socio-economic advancement in their environment.

Landmark University takes eighth place among the most expensive universities in Nigeria, with an average tuition fee of 1.2 Million Naira. The Christian private University is affiliated with the Living Faith Church Worldwide and is located in Omu-Aran, Kwara State, Nigeria.

The Institution was established in 2011 and is made of just 15 departments organized into three colleges  As of 2014, Landmark University had a student population of 2684 including international students from other African countries. It was featured among the top five universities in Nigeria by Webometrics in the same year.

The institution currently has three major faculties, which are the Faculty of Clinical Sciences, the Faculty of Basic Medical Sciences, and the Faculty of Allied health sciences. The institution was founded in 2017, offering major medical courses in Medicine and Surgery, Nursing Science, Dentistry and Dental Surgery, and other medical allied programs. Eko University of Medicine and Health Sciences is made up of just two faculties: The faculty of  Clinical Sciences and the Faculty of Basic Medical Sciences

Skyline University is a privately owned University in Kano, Nigeria, which was established in 2018 by Sanusi Lamido Sanusi, the former Emir of Kano and Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria. The institution is the first private University in Kano and the second private University in the North-West region of Nigeria.

Since its establishment in 2018, Skyline University has grown into 14 departments organized into 3 faculties, which are the School of Science and Information Technology, the School of Arts, Management and Social Science, and the School of Basic Medical Sciences.  With an average tuition fee of 1.9 Million Naira, the institution is no doubt one of the most expensive Universities in Nigeria.

Baze University and the second most expensive University in Nigeria, with an average tuition fee of  2.2 Million Naira. The private tertiary institution was established in 2011, located in Abuja. It received its provisional license from the National Universities Commission (NUC) in the same year.

The university offers various academic programs for undergraduate and post-graduate degrees. A total of 43 undergraduate degree programs are run at the university under 6 faculties. As of 2021, the university has had six consecutive Convocation Ceremonies and has produced graduates in various disciplines.

It is a member of the Honoris United Universities Network and has been accredited by the National Universities Commission.

The Nile University of Nigeria, currently, has six faculties and a School of Postgraduate Studies offering 34 undergraduate programs and 47 postgraduate programs. In addition to its standard academic programs, the institution offers short, on-demand, professional courses through its Centre for Lifelong Learning (CELL).
