Nduka Obaigbena CON, Duke of Owa Kingdom is the founding Chairman & Editor-in-Chief of the THISDAY Media Group and ARISE News Channel.

Biography

Nduka Obaigbena (Duke of Owa Kingdom) was born on July 14, 1959 in Ibadan, South West, Nigeria. He was born into the aristocratic Owa Kingdom, Delta State, family. His mother, Princess Margaret Obaigbena, served as the state’s chief nursing officer at the time, while his father was a veteran of both the first and second world wars.

Obaigbena attended Edo College to complete his SSCE. After he completed his college education, he was granted admission to pursue his first degree at the University of Benin (UniBen).

In addition to his education, Nduka has diplomas from the Advanced Management Program at the University of Cape Town and the Graduate School of Business at the University of the Witwatersrand in Johannesburg.

Career

Nduka established the Nigerian newspaper Thisday in 1995. He founded the annual Thisday Awards in 2000 to honor and recognize those who have contributed positively to Nigeria society in the politics, global business, women of distinction and leading figures in the Nigerian education system.

In 2013, he started Arise News, signing deals with Hot Bird for cable distribution and Globecast for satellite transmission on Astra 2G for broadcast on the UK Sky platform. Arise News has offices in Johannesburg, Lagos, New York City, and London.

He also founded ARISE Magazine and the publication was launched at the THISDAY Music & Fashion Festival at London’s Royal Albert Hall on October 14, 2008 and powered The ARISE (AFRICA ) FASHION Week starting in Johannesburg and Cape Town, South Africa.

Additionally, Obaigbena was a senate candidate in 1991. He was elected a member of the Constitutional Conference in 1994.

Personal Life

Nduka is a devoted Christian and a member of the Anglican Church.

He is married with children. According to Naijmobile, he remarried Ms Ikyuma Doris Aondoaka in 2018 after his first marriage hit the rocks. His union with Ms Ikyuma Doris Aondoaka is blessed with two children. However, not much is known about their kids.
