Meet Changpeng Zhao, the CEO of Binance and Asia’s richest billionaire

Changpeng Zhao is the CEO of the world’s largest crypto trading app, Binance and also the richest man in the whole of Asia. Zhao is a Chinese-Canadian businessman and a former member of the team that developed Blockchain.info.

According to Bloomberg Billionaires Index, his net worth of January 2022  is estimated at $96, making Changpeng Zhao the richest person in Canada & the world’s 11th richest person.

This new record pushed him to surpass the former richest man in Asia, Mukesh Ambani. Also moving closer in on the fortunes of tech giants like Mark Zuckerberg and Google founders, Larry Page and Sergey Brin.

According to Wikipedia, Changpeng Zhao, fondly called CZ by Cryptophiles was born September 10th, 1977, in China’s Jiangsu province. At the age of 12, Changpeng Zhao moved with his family to Canada and settled in Vancouver, British Columbia.

Changpeng Zhao was born to parents who were both teachers in China, he attended McGill University in Montreal, Quebec, where he majored in computer science. He worked full-time for four years at Bloomberg Tradebook where he was a developer of futures trading software after graduating from university.

Beginning in 2013, Zhao worked for various cryptocurrency projects including Blockchain.info and also served as chief technology officer of OKCoin. However, in 2017, he left OKCoin to launch a cryptocurrency exchange that later become the world largest trading app, Binance.

In 2018, he was placed third on the list of “The Richest People In Cryptocurrency” by Forbes Magazine

Binance, in the past years alone, generated $20 billion in revenue. This is triple of what Coinbase Global, a publicly-traded crypto firm with a market value of $50 billion made in the same year.

According to Changpeng Zhao, the CEO, Binance routinely facilitates as much trading as the next four largest crypto companies combined. Recently, Binance completed $170 billion worth of transactions within 24 hours and would transact about $40 billion on a really slow day, which represents a huge growth compared to as little as $10 billion recorded two years ago.

Changpeng Zhao whose net worth is now $100 billion said he intends to give away most of his wealth, even 99% of his wealth, just like other entrepreneurs and founders.”

You will recall that in recent years, other famous business leaders, such as Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg, have signed the Giving Pledge, an initiative started by Warren Buffett and Bill and Melinda Gates to encourage the world’s richest to donate the bulk of their fortunes to charity.

In all, Changpeng Zhao is currently Asia’s richest billionaire and one of the crypto billionaires.
