Kano TikTokers jail for depicting Governor Ganduje as corrupt
  • Two Kano Tiktokers have been jailed by the Kano State Magistrate Court.
  • Ganduje reportedly has a reputation for retaliating against critics and journalists

For defaming the reputation of the state governor, Abdullahi Ganduje, two Kano TikTokers, Mubarak Muhammad, also known as Uniquepikin, and Nazifi Muhammad, have been jailed by the Kano State Magistrate Court.

In one of their skits, the Kano TikTokers painted the governor as a corrupt official who, among other corrupt deeds, sold the majority of the state’s lands.

Following the reading of the charges of conspiracy and defamation of the state helmsman, Uniquepikin and Nazif entered a plea of guilty.

The two Kano TikTokers were then ordered to remain in prison custody while the case was continued to November 7, 2022, by Magistrate Court 58, Nomansland’s presiding magistrate Aminu Gambari.

Since the Daily Nigerian newspaper published videos of Mr. Ganduje stuffing bundles of bribes in foreign currency into the pockets of his babanriga (flowing garment), he has been painted as a corrupt public official.

The governor has a reputation for retaliating against critics and journalists who call attention to his corrupt business dealings with the state. However, the governor’s supporters think that many of his detractors have political agendas.

Meanwhile, Abdullahi Ganduje, the governor of Kano State, has urged the Hausa-Fulani communities in Lagos State to back Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, the APC’s presidential candidate, and Senator Kashim Shettima, Tinubu’s running mate, in the upcoming 2023 election.

This was said by Ganduje on Wednesday while visiting the Arewa communities in the Alaba Rago in the state’s Ojo region with Shettima and Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu.

He said, “We are here today with good tidings and we have brought you good news. As far as the Northern part of this country is concerned, the issue of Tinubu’s presidency is already completed. We are waiting for you Lagosians to come out and support this with your votes.

“In Kano, Asiwaju will get more votes than any state will give him. We challenge you Lagosians to promise us that you will defeat Kano in the choice of Tinubu.”

In his remarks, Shettima noted that the 2023 election would be a payback time for Tinubu in the North, given that he had backed candidates from the North in previous national elections.

“I want to impress on you the importance of the next election. For those of us from the North, this is payback time. In prior electoral cycles, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu supported northern Nigerian candidates for the presidency of Nigeria. In the 2014 and 2015 presidential primaries and subsequent elections, without the voting block from the South-West generated by Asiwaju, President Buhari couldn’t have clinched the presidency of the APC.

“The same was repeated in the 2019 election, now it is payback time. We are people of honor, we should honor our pledge and commitment and most importantly, we want you to vote for APC. For governorship, I want you to come out and vote for Babajide Sanwo-Olu.”
