Jill Scott born on April 4 in 1972 in Philadelphia,she grew up a the only child in North Philadelphia neighborhood, raised by her mother Joyce Scott,and her grand mother.she was raised as a Jehovah’s witness.However Jill Scott graduated from the Philadelphia High School For Girls,and later attended Temple University.while working two jobs she studied secondary education,she planned to become a high school English teacher.After three years of study And working as a teacher’s aide, Scott became disillusioned with a teaching career and she dropped out of college.

Jill Scott began her performing carrer as a spoken word artist during live poetry reading to perform her work,She was later discovered by Ahmir Questlove of the roots , Questlove invited her to join the band in the studio.In 2000 ”You Got Me” was released after the collaboration,Scott collaborated with Eric Benet,Will Smith and Common.She broadened her performing experience by touring canada in a production of the Broadway.
In 2003 Scott earn a Grammy nomination for Best Female Vocal Performance but eventually lost the award but in 2005 won a Grammy Award for Best Urban/Alternative R&B Performance for ”Cross My Mind”
However in 2007 Scott won her second Grammy Awards for Best Traditional R&B Vocal Performance,and in September 25 that same year a collaboration collection served as ”an appetizer” for her next studio album.In 2008 Scott released her second live album, live in Paris which consists of 8 songs recorded during her set list of the “Big Beautiful Tour” in Europe. The bonus DVD contains the same concert, plus some live cuts from The Real Thing: Words and Sounds Vol. 3
The Light of the Sun officially began production in 2010. Scott gave fans a preview of the music on her 18-city venue, co-headlining tour with R&B singer Maxwell, entitled Maxwell & Jill Scott: The Tour. After the tour, Scott began studio sessions with the album’s executive producer, JR Hutson. Recording sessions took place in several locations, including 9th Street Studios, Studio 609, Fever Recording Studios in North Hollywood, California
