I Was Warned in His Chapel—Abbo Accuses Akpabio of Senate ‘Purge’, But Akpabio Fires Back

Senate President Godswill Akpabio has refuted explosive allegations made by former Adamawa North senator, Ishaku Elisha Abbo, who claimed Akpabio orchestrated the removal of five senators from the 10th Senate.

Abbo, recently removed from office by the Appeal Court, made the accusation during interviews on Channels Television and Arise News. He alleged that Akpabio runs the Senate like a private empire and is eliminating lawmakers who opposed his Senate presidency bid. According to Abbo, Akpabio once took him to a chapel in his residence and told him that five senators would be ousted—an alleged prophecy Abbo says later came true.

In response, Akpabio, through his media aide Hon. Eseme Eyiboh, dismissed the claims as baseless and an attempt to distract from real legislative work. Eyiboh noted that Abbo had previously retracted similar accusations in 2023, admitting they were premature and not grounded in solid evidence. He criticized Abbo for reviving the same narrative despite having once accepted the court’s decision that led to his removal.

Eyiboh added that the Senate President remains focused on his leadership duties and nation-building efforts, refusing to be sidetracked by “misinformation and blame games.”

Abbo also warned that Senator Orji Uzor Kalu could be Akpabio’s next target, further intensifying speculation around internal power tussles in the Senate. This development comes amid another major controversy involving Akpabio, as Kogi Central Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan continues to pursue sexual harassment allegations against him.

Meanwhile, Abbo’s replacement, Amos Yohanna, has been officially sworn in by the Senate following the Appeal Court’s ruling.
