I left secondary school in 2015 with a good O’level result; although I have an issue with passing Literature, I really wanted to study Law. I kept writing JAMB with score 250, 245 220 and kept pursuing my most love institution, the University of Ibadan. One way or the other I was hooked up in failure to upload O’level result, failure to accept admission at the right time etc. However, I’m unaware that UI is a competitive school that admits a few applicants yearly. Although I was given admission in all these period, not actually in the course I wanted. This is 2020 I still haven’t gain admission.

How to Gain Admission Without Connections In Nigeria

  1. Good O’Level Result:

From the above experience, we observed one of the hindrances of the young student from gaining admission is O’level result; He/she wants to apply for Law without Literature which, however, not possible. At least five credit pass in your O’Level with the necessary subject combination will secure your admission. Furthermore, you should read the JAMB brochure as it contains info of O’Level requirement for all institutions.

2. Avoid Competitive Institutions:

Another hindrance of that student up there is that he/she kept applying for the University of Ibadan(UI) every year; according to statistics, 4359 applicants were given admission among 19,482 in 2020 academic session. Moreover, where will the remaining 15, 123 students go— they’ll wait and apply next year. Which to us is very bad as it causes more pain to these applicants. Therefore, to gain admission easily you should apply for less competitive schools.

3. Avoid Professional Courses: 

In the same way, gaining admission via professional courses has become a nightmare; courses such as Law, Medicine, Accounting etc are professional courses and admission may not easily come with them. Therefore, applicants should endeavour to avoid them because they are very competitive. If for instance, you wish to apply with any don’t choose competitive universities. They are high chances of gaining admission into less competitive universities with good O’Level result.

On the other hand, if you wish to apply for competitive institution choose a less competitive course. From the experience above, we also observed that the student kept pursuing Law in a highly competitive university.

Secure Admission Into 200Level Without JAMB

4. Get A Good JAMB Score:

Also, a good JAMB score has a long way to go in securing your admission; make sure you pass at least 200 and above. Therefore, you must read fervently past questions and textbooks to help sharpen your knowledge. You should minimise the rate of cramming and focus on understanding what you read. However, getting a good JAMB score must not be considered in isolation; you should endeavour to consider other points up there too.

5. Consider Indigenous Universities:

Moreso, when registering for JAMB, you should consider universities in your state of origin; the student in the experience up there may be from Kwara, Ondo, Osun etc but kept applying for UI. University’s management tends to favour those in their region over others, especially state universities. Therefore, don’t fail to pick one from your catchment area because admission is 70% secured.

6. Miscellaneous:

For instance, miscellaneous events will happen that you must overcome;  event, such as uploading of O’Level result, acceptance of admission, payment of acceptance fee, etc must be corrected before admission. Even correction of data, of bio, change of course and institution can hinder your admission. Therefore, you must take cognisance of these things so that your admission won’t be affected.
