Helen Lydia Mironoff, the daughter of a Russian father and an English mother, was born at Queen Charlotte’s and Chelsea Hospital in London’s Hammersmith neighborhood on July 26, 1945. Her father was born into an exiled Russian nobility family who are aristocrats and migrated to England with his father when he was 2 years old.

She was the second of three children; she had a younger brother named Peter Basil and an older sister named Katherine.
