BIOGRAPHY OF FOXY BROWN

Foxy Brown is an American rapper best known for her debut album, Ill Na Na, which was released in 1996 and sold over 109,000 copies in its first week, and debuted at number 7 on the Billboard 200 album chart.

While still a teenager, Brown won a talent contest in Brooklyn, New York’s Park Slope neighborhood. That evening, members of the Trackmasters production team who were working on Mr. Smith’s LL Cool J album were in attendance and were inspired enough to invite Brown to rap over “I Shot Ya.”

 

She was an overnight sensation at such a young age, as she was very talented and a provocative rapper. The immediate success culminated in a label bidding war in early 1996, and Def Jam Records won and added the then 17-year-old rapper to their roster in March. She followed this breakthrough with appearances by other artists on numerous RIAA platinum and gold singles, including remixes of Toni Braxton’s song, ‘You’re Makin’ Me High’. Brown was also featured on the soundtrack to the 1996 film The Nutty Professor, on the songs “Touch Me Tease Me” by Case and “Ain’t No Nigga” b

Her second album, Chyna Doll, was released in 1999, and her third album, Grammy-nominated Shattered Silence, was released in 2001. She has appeared on songs since 2001, but has not released any albums. She left Def Jam in 2003 and dropped out of releasing her album Ill Na Na 2, but returned in 2005 once then label president and CEO Jay-Z re-signed her to begin work on his new album Black Roses. His Brooklyn Don Diva mixtape was released in May 2008, and his visual album, King Soon Come, was supposed to be released in 2019, but was delayed indefinitely.
