  • The news governor also abolished the ‘State of Osun and’ froze the state accounts

On his first day in office, Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke sacked 12000 workers and dethroned three monarchs appointed by his predecessor, Adegboyega Oyetola.

As hoodlums wreaked havoc in Osogbo by destroying car parks, Governor Adeleke was forced to issue a warning to the populace about violence. The new governor also had a dispute with the state legislators over the constitutionality of his executive orders over laws enacted by the House.

You will recall a few weeks to the end of his tenure, Oyetola appointed several monarchs, including the Akirun of Ikirun, Oba Yinusa Akadiri; Aree of Iree, Oba Ademola Oluponle; and Owa of Igbajo, Oba Adegboyega Famodun.

However, Adeleke in a statement by his spokesman, Olawale Rasheed, about 24 hours after his inauguration announced that the thrones of Akirun of Akirun, Aree of Iree and Owa of Igbajo remain unoccupied, pending the outcome of a Committee of Inquiry to review their appointments and subsequent installations.

According to the statement, the six Executive Orders issued by the governor, which border on the reversal of monarchs’ appointments, appointment and placement of civil servants, employees, and freezing of government accounts had been signed and took immediate effect.

Meanwhile, the new governor of Osun State, Ademola Adeleke, has come under fire from the All Progressives Congress and the Osun State House of Assembly over the six executive orders he signed on Monday.

They denounced the incoming governor for undoing some of Gboyega Oyetola’s appointments and hiring decisions.

Adeleke, who was elected governor on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party, announced the dismissal of allegedly 12,000 people engaged by his predecessor in his first official act as governor.

In addition, he allegedly ordered the revocation of the certificates of return for local council chairmen chosen by the APC in the State Independent Electoral Commission’s October 15 local government elections. He also deposed three monarchs.

Furthermore, the governor abolished the ‘State of Osun’ appellation, which was promulgated by one of his predecessors, Rauf Aregbesola, froze the state accounts, reversed the appointment of 30 permanent secretaries by Oyetola, while promising to correct past injustices, corrupt acts, and bad policies of the immediate past administration.

Earlier, the Secretary to the State Government, Tesleem Igbalaye, announced the suspension of the Chairman of the Osun State Independent Electoral Commission, Mr. Segun Oladitan, alongside six members of the Commission with immediate effect.

The suspension was said to have been based on several petitions bordering on financial impropriety, dereliction of duty, absenteeism, and abuse of office against the said chairman and members of the commission.

The statement read, “The Executive Governor of Osun State, Senator Ademola Jackson Nurudeen Adeleke has directed the immediate suspension of the Chairman of the Osun State Independent Electoral Commission, Mr. Segun Oladitan, and the following members of the Commission; Mr. Yusuf Oyeniran; . Alhaja Suibat Adubi; Prince Yinka Ajiboye; Mrs. Abosede Omibeku;  Mr. Dosu Gidigbi and Mr. Wahab Adewoyin.

“This suspension is a sequel to several petitions bothering on financial impropriety, dereliction of duty, absenteeism, and abuse of office against the said chairman and members of the commission.

“Pending the outcome of an investigation into the allegations against the suspended chairman and members of the commission, the Secretary to the commission shall hold forth in running the affairs of the commission.”
