Biography
David Oyedepo was born in Osogbo, Osun State on the 27th of September, 1954. His father is a native of Omu-Aran, Irepodun LGA in Kwara State. Ibrahim Oyedepo (his father), was a Muslim healer while his mother Dorcas Oyedepo was a member of the Holy Order of the C&S.
David Oyedepo was raised by his grandmother and she was the one who introduced him to the Christian life. David Oyedepo together with his grandmother would attend early morning prayers, and this turned into a lifestyle he got acquainted with. His grandmother also taught him the importance of tithing which is one of his strongest messages to believers today. David Oyedepo believes so much in tithing and has continually spoken on and on about tithing in several of his sermons.
He studied architecture at the Kwara State University in Ilorin. And upon graduation, he worked briefly with the Federal Ministry of Housing in Ilorin where he later left to focus on missionary work. Later on, he went ahead to bag a PhD in Human Development from Honolulu University, Hawaii in the United States.
The Vision
In 1969, David Oyedepo became Born Again under the tutoring and mentoring of his teacher, Betty Lasher. Betty Lasher took an interest in him during his high school days and ever since, followed up on his spiritual life.
According to Bishop David Oyedepo, he received a mandate from God through an 18-hour vision in May 1981. According to recounts, this is the mandate he received from the Lord: “Now the hour has come to liberate the world from all oppressions of the devil through the preaching of the word of faith, and I am sending you to undertake this task”.
This mandate led to the founding of the Liberation Faith Hour Ministries in 1981 which was later renamed the Living Faith Church (LFC). In 1983, Pastor Enoch Adeboye, General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God, ordained David Oyedepo and his wife, Faith Abiola Oyedepo. Five years later, the late Archbishop Benson Idahosa (David Oyedepo’s life mentor) ordained him as a Bishop.

Missionary
The Living Faith Church initially started in Kaduna but was moved to start a new branch in Lagos in July 1989. This was done based on instructions from the lord to reach out to the people of Lagos.
In 1998, David Oyedepo was instructed by God to build a new base that would accommodate the increasing number of worshippers. Then, the church acquired a 530-acre (2.1 km²) facility in Ota, Ogun State. The construction was completed within 12 months and the building was reported to be debt-free. This Ogun State branch now serves as the headquarter known as Canaanland. And it has a 50,000-seat capacity which was also recorded by the Guinness Book of Records.
This 50,000-seat auditorium contains the church secretariat, the church’s youth chapel, the Kingdom Heritage Model School, the Faith Academy, and the Covenant University facilities which accommodate over 7,000 students. These students are fully resident in ultra-modern hostel facilities, with fully equipped faculty buildings and numerous staff housing facilities.
Canaanland campus also has profit-making establishments operated by the church such as a bakery, a bottled water processing plant, a petrol station, restaurants, shopping stores, and, several residential houses that provide for the over 2,000 church employees and guesthouses.
Also, there are four banks steadily operating in the Estate. Three are branches of external commercial banks and one is a community and Micro-Finance Bank operated by the Church. The whole of Canaanland which includes a proposed 15,000 housing estate known as Canaan City had increased to 17,000 acres as of 2012.
Ministry
Asides from being described as a preacher of the prosperity gospel due to his influences, David Oyedepo also submits to several Christian activities and responsibilities. He is the President of David Oyedepo Ministries International (DOMI), the World Mission Agency, the Global Missionary Arm of the Church’s Operations, Dominion Publishing House, the Publishing Arm of the Church, Covenant University, and, the Social Development Missions Projects.
He is no doubt so involved in the world’s spiritual growth that he has continually created mediums and means for people to easily grow. There is the creation of the Word of Faith Bible Institute which operates a Bible Training Programme for members and non-members. The aim of this Institution is to develop knowledge of Christian Principles and likewise, develop leaders and future pastors. And it is operated in major branches of the Church.
The Ministry’s biggest annual meeting, Shiloh takes place every December in the headquarter. And this annual meeting welcomes thousands of congregants across the world.

Family
In 1982 David Oyedepo and Florence Abiola Akano (now Faith Oyedepo) got married. They have four children together (David Jr, Isaac, Love and Joyce Oyedepo). In May 2007, David Oyedepo Jr and Isaac Oyedepo were ordained as Pastors by Kenneth Copeland.
David Oyedepo Jr was formerly the pastor of the London Branch of the Winners’ Church alongside his wife, Kemi. However, he is now the resident pastor of the Ministry’s headquarters church (Faith Tabernacle).
Isaac Oyedepo pastors Winners’ Chapel International, Maryland, in the United States of America alongside his wife Ayomitide.
Bishop David Oyedepo’s first daughter Love is married to Stephen Ogah, who is also a pastor in Winners’ Chapel. And Joyce Priscilla is the last child and second daughter. In 2020, she married Abimbola Abodunrin.
As part of their blessings, Bishop David Oyedepo and Faith Oyedepo are blessed with several grandchildren.

David Oyedepo Private Jets
