Early Life
Lee was born in St. Louis, Missouri, on April 29, 1983. He attended John Burroughs School for middle school and Chaminade College Preparatory School for high school, both in the St. Louis area. Lee originally favored his left hand but became good with both hands when he broke his left arm and learned to use his right hand. He was really good at basketball and even won the 2001 Slam Dunk competition as a McDonald’s All-American. Parade magazine also named him a top high school All-American.
In college, Lee got a scholarship to the University of Florida in Gainesville, Florida. He played for the Florida Gators basketball team coached by Billy Donovan from 2001 to 2005. In his first year, he made the All-Southeastern Conference (SEC) freshman team, as chosen by the conference’s coaches. During his second year in 2002–03, he averaged 11.5 points and 7 rebounds per game. In his junior year, in 2003–04, he was named a second-team All-SEC selection while averaging 13 points and 7 rebounds per game.
In his senior year, Lee played alongside some other really good players like Al Horford, Corey Brewer, Taurean Green, and Joakim Noah, who later played in the NBA. They won the 2005 SEC men’s basketball tournament, which was a big deal because it was the first time the Gators had ever won it. They beat the Kentucky Wildcats 70–53 to claim the championship.
Career
