Daniel Truett Cathy was born in 1953 in Jonesboro, Georgia, to Jeanette and S. Truett Cathy. He was the first of three children, with a younger brother named Bubba Cathy and a sister named Trudy.
Daniel began producing radio advertisements for his father’s original Dwarf House restaurant in Hapeville, Georgia, while still in high school in the late 1960s. During this period, his father was busy expanding the restaurant business, adding more outlets throughout Atlanta and Georgia, and eventually creating the Chick-fil-A franchise brand.
Cathy earned a bachelor’s degree in business administration from Georgia Southern University in 1975 after finishing his studies. Following graduation, he went to work full-time for his father’s company, which was already well-established.
