Celine Dion diagnosed with rare incurable neurological condition
  • French-Canadian singer, Celine Dion has revealed she has been diagnosed with Stiff Person Syndrome (SPS), a rare neurological disorder.

  • She announced that she has canceled her Europe tour scheduled for February

Singer Celine Dion has been diagnosed with a rare neurological disorder called Stiff Person Syndrome that causes spasms and makes it difficult for her to sing.

The French- Canadian singer said in emotional videos released on social media.

The condition, which causes stiffness and spasms in several muscles in the body, is incurable. Medical experts say it affects only about one or two people in a million. In light of the diagnosis, Dion announced she is canceling the planned resumption of her European tour in February.

“While we’re still learning about this rare condition, we now know this is what’s been causing all of the spasms that I’ve been having,” a visibly emotional Dion said in English in one of the videos. A second video was released in French.

“Unfortunately, these spasms affect every aspect of my daily life, sometimes causing difficulties when I walk and not allowing me to use my vocal cords to sing the way I’m used to,” said Celine, known for ballads including, It’s All Coming Back to Me Now, and, My Heart Will Go On.

“It hurts me to tell you today,” the 54-year-old continued in the tearful video shared on her Instagram page, her voice breaking, “that this means I won’t be ready to restart my tour in Europe in February.”
