  • Mario Wazobia Blasts Verydarkman Over Defamation Case Involving Mr Jollof’s Wife

Media personality Mario Wazobia has publicly criticized social commentator Verydarkman over an ongoing defamation case involving the wife of comedian Mr Jollof.

The controversy followed reactions to a photo allegedly taken during a court session connected to the case.

Mario Wazobia Reacts to Court Allegations

According to Mario Wazobia, Verydarkman allegedly admitted in court that he had no concrete evidence to support claims previously made about Mr Jollof’s wife.

Mario claimed the social commentator said the allegations were based on information he heard from other people.

The media personality argued that such statements were reckless and damaging, especially given the seriousness of the accusations made publicly online.

    Claims Described as Harmful

Mario stated that the lawsuit was filed after Verydarkman allegedly claimed Mr Jollof’s wife was seen at a hotel with a suspected fraudster, popularly referred to as a “Yahoo Boy.”

He also alleged that additional statements were made suggesting she used inappropriate means to help her husband secure a political appointment.

According to Mario, the allegations were false and harmful to her reputation.

“This is why I will never rate VDM. In this video of VeryDarkMan in court, he admitted to not having any evidence for what he said about Mr Jollof’s wife, claiming he only heard it,” Mario said in part.

“He also made other explicit and disrespectful claims about her, including saying she used her body to help her husband secure a political appointment, which was very inappropriate and damaging to her reputation. Meanwhile, these claims were fabricated and all lies.”

    Social Media Reactions Trail Case

The development has since generated mixed reactions online, with supporters of both personalities debating the issue across social media platforms.

Many users also raised concerns about defamation, online accusations, and the growing impact of social media commentary on reputations and public image.

  • Funke Akindele’s ‘Behind the Scenes’ Leaves AMVCA 2026 Without Award Despite ₦2bn Box Office Run

Funke Akindele’s blockbuster film Behind the Scenes has become one of the biggest talking points following the 12th Africa Magic Viewers’ Choice Awards (AMVCA) after the movie failed to secure a single award despite multiple nominations and record-breaking commercial success.

The film, which dominated Nollywood conversations for months, went into the AMVCA with nominations in several major categories, including Best Movie, Best Director, Best Lead Actress, Best Supporting Actress, and Best Supporting Actor.

    Major Nominations, No Win

Behind the Scenes starred Scarlet Gomez as a wealthy real estate mogul dealing with family pressure and financial responsibility often described as “black tax.”

The movie also featured Funke Akindele, Uzor Arukwe, Tobi Bakre, Iyabo Ojo, and several other top actors.

Despite its strong nomination run, the awards went to other productions during the ceremony held in Lagos on Saturday night.

Linda Ejiofor emerged as one of the biggest acting winners after clinching Best Lead Actress for The Serpent’s Gift and Best Supporting Actress for The Herd.

Meanwhile, My Father’s Shadow dominated the night with wins for Best Movie, Best Director, and several technical categories.

    Film Breaks Nollywood Records

Although the film left the AMVCA empty-handed, Behind the Scenes had already secured its place in Nollywood history through its box office performance.

Distributed by FilmOne Entertainment, the movie became the first Nollywood production to cross the ₦2 billion mark at the box office.

Reports also showed that the film generated between ₦2.1 billion and ₦2.7 billion domestically while setting multiple records across Nigeria and diaspora markets.

The movie reportedly became the fastest West African film to hit ₦1 billion and also emerged as the highest-grossing Nigerian film in Africa, the UK, and Ireland.

It further recorded the biggest single-day gross in Nollywood history on Boxing Day.

Debate Over Awards and Commercial Success

The outcome has since reignited conversations about the gap between commercial success and award recognition in Nollywood.

While films like My Father’s Shadow gained critical acclaim and dominated jury votes, blockbuster productions such as Behind the Scenes continue driving the industry’s financial growth and cinema culture.

Funke Akindele, already regarded as one of Nollywood’s biggest commercial filmmakers, has consistently dominated the box office in recent years with projects like A Tribe Called Judah and Everybody Loves Jenifa.

The film was also recently released on Netflix, further expanding its global reach.

    Mixed Reactions Trail AMVCA Outcome

Reactions online have remained divided since the awards night, with many fans expressing disappointment over the movie’s shutout despite its cultural impact and commercial dominance.

Others, however, argued that awards are often based on artistic and technical considerations rather than box office numbers alone.

As conversations continue after AMVCA 2026, Behind the Scenes remains one of Nollywood’s most commercially successful productions, proving once again that audience acceptance and award recognition do not always go hand in hand.

  • 2027: Peter Obi’s Chances Rise as NDC Zones Presidential Ticket to South

The Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) has zoned its 2027 presidential ticket to Southern Nigeria, a decision widely viewed as a major boost for former Anambra State governor Peter Obi.

The announcement was made on Saturday during the party’s national convention held in Abuja and was later confirmed through a statement shared on the party’s official X handle.

    Convention Draws Top Political Figures

Several high-profile politicians attended the convention, including Peter Obi and former Kano State governor Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso.

Discussions at the gathering reportedly centred on zoning arrangements, constitutional amendments, and the election of national executives ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The zoning decision is expected to shape the party’s presidential race and strengthen Obi’s position within the NDC following his recent defection.

    Wave of Defections Strengthens NDC

The NDC has recently recorded a series of defections from opposition parties, especially the African Democratic Congress (ADC) and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

On Tuesday, 17 members of the House of Representatives dumped the ADC for the NDC during plenary, further increasing the party’s political momentum ahead of 2027.

The defections followed the official entry of Peter Obi and Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso into the party after leaving the ADC.

    Obi, Kwankwaso Welcomed Into Party

The two politicians reportedly received their membership cards after a closed-door meeting with party leaders.

Former Bayelsa State governor and NDC national leader, Seriake Dickson, officially welcomed them into the party.

Reports indicated that Obi left the ADC following growing internal crises and what he described as increasing hostility within the party structure.

The latest zoning arrangement is now expected to intensify political calculations ahead of the 2027 presidential election as opposition parties continue realignments across the country.
