  • Gunmen Abduct Pastor’s Nine-Year-Old Son During Ondo Community Attack

A nine-year-old boy, Victor Olaosebikan, has been abducted by armed men who invaded Igbosi Community in Idogun, Ose Local Government Area of Ondo State in the early hours of Friday.

The attack triggered panic in the community as the gunmen reportedly fired several gunshots before storming residential buildings.

    Pastor’s Son Taken During Raid

According to reports, the attackers forced their way into the residence of Mr. Olaosebikan Isaac, a pastor in the community.

Isaac reportedly escaped into a nearby bush during the attack, but his son, Victor, was left behind and was taken away by the gunmen.

The incident has heightened fears among residents over growing security concerns in the area.

    Another Resident Escapes

A resident, Mr. Joel Owalekan, also recounted how the armed men attempted to break into his home.

He said the attackers vandalised parts of the building while trying to gain access, but he managed to escape unharmed after fleeing the area.

No casualties were reported during the attack.

    Police, Amotekun Launch Rescue Operation

Confirming the incident, Ondo State Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Abayomi Jimoh, said the matter was reported to security authorities at about 2:30 a.m. on Friday.

He stated that police officers and operatives of the Amotekun Corps immediately launched a joint operation to rescue the abducted child and apprehend the attackers.

“Upon receipt of the distress report, the Divisional Police Officer and his men, in collaboration with the Amotekun Corps, immediately mobilised to the scene and launched a coordinated search-and-rescue operation,” Jimoh said.

“Security operatives combed the surrounding forests and likely escape routes in a bid to rescue the abducted child and apprehend the perpetrators.”

    Investigation Ongoing

The police spokesperson disclosed that investigations have commenced, while relevant exhibits recovered from the scene have been documented to aid ongoing efforts.

He appealed to members of the public to provide useful information that could assist security agencies in locating the abducted boy and tracking down the suspects.

Residents were urged to report any credible information to the nearest police station or security agency.

  • NBA Raises Concern Over ‘Excessive’ Bail Conditions Across Nigeria

The Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) has raised concerns over what it described as the increasing use of excessive and unrealistic bail conditions by courts and law enforcement agencies, warning that the practice undermines the constitutional rights of accused persons.

NBA President, Afam Osigwe, made the position known in a statement, stressing that bail is meant to guarantee a defendant’s appearance in court and should not become a tool for punishment before trial.

NBA Warns Against Indirect Denial of Bail

Osigwe said the association has observed several cases where defendants are granted bail but are subjected to conditions that are difficult or impossible to meet.

According to him, some courts require sureties who are senior civil servants on Grade Levels 16 or 17, while others demand landed properties worth hundreds of millions of naira.

“Bail is neither a punishment nor a mechanism for imposing pre-trial incarceration by indirect means,” he said.

He argued that such conditions effectively amount to a denial of bail because many defendants cannot fulfil the requirements despite receiving court orders granting their release.

    Association Cites Court Decisions

The NBA referenced previous judicial decisions supporting its position on reasonable bail conditions.

It cited the Supreme Court judgment in Suleman & Anor v. Commissioner of Police, Plateau State, where the court held that bail exists to secure pre-trial freedom and should not create impossible obstacles for defendants.

The association also referred to Dasuki v. Director-General, State Security Service, in which the Court of Appeal criticised the practice of demanding serving public officers as sureties, describing the requirement as unrealistic and inconsistent with public service rules.

    Call for Compliance With ACJA

Osigwe reminded judges and judicial officers that Section 165(1) of the Administration of Criminal Justice Act (ACJA), 2015, expressly provides that bail conditions must not be excessive.

He urged courts across the country to ensure that bail requirements remain fair, reasonable and achievable.

According to the NBA president, any bail condition that cannot reasonably be met by an accused person is, in practical terms, a refusal of bail.

The association called for greater adherence to constitutional principles and judicial precedents in the administration of criminal justice across Nigeria.

  • Grenada Announces Visa-Free Entry for Nigerians, Seeks Stronger Trade Ties

The Consulate of Grenada in Nigeria has announced visa-free entry for Nigerian passport holders, a move aimed at boosting trade, tourism, investment and business relations between both countries.

The announcement was made by Grenada’s Consul to Nigeria, Ambassador Abidemi Sonoiki, during an interactive session with journalists on Thursday.

    Grenada Targets Nigerian Investors

Sonoiki described Grenada as a strategic destination for Nigerian entrepreneurs and investors seeking opportunities beyond the African continent.

According to him, a new economic corridor is emerging between Africa and the Caribbean, creating fresh opportunities for business expansion and cross-border partnerships.

“Today, Grenada presents a compelling opportunity for Nigerian investors and entrepreneurs looking to access new markets beyond Africa,” he said.

“We are witnessing the emergence of a strategic economic corridor between Africa and the Caribbean, one that offers immense opportunities for trade, investment, tourism, education and business growth.”

    Awaiting Nigeria’s Response

The envoy disclosed that Grenada has already approved visa-free access for Nigerians and is awaiting reciprocal action from the Nigerian government through diplomatic channels.

He said removing visa restrictions would make it easier for business owners, investors and professionals to explore opportunities in both countries.

“Visa-free access removes a significant barrier to engagement. It enables Nigerian investors, business owners and professionals to explore opportunities in Grenada more easily and creates a stronger foundation for commercial cooperation,” Sonoiki stated.

    Direct Flights Under Discussion

Sonoiki also revealed that discussions are ongoing to establish direct air links between Nigeria and the Caribbean within the next six months.

He noted that improved connectivity would significantly enhance trade, tourism and investment flows between both regions.

“Connectivity is one of the most important enablers of economic growth. Establishing direct links between Nigeria and the Caribbean would unlock enormous opportunities for trade, investment and tourism while positioning Grenada as a strategic gateway for African businesses seeking access to Caribbean markets,” he said.

    Opportunities Beyond Large Investors

The consul stressed that the initiative is not limited to major investors but also targets entrepreneurs, skilled professionals and small business owners looking to expand internationally.

He encouraged Nigerians to view Grenada as more than a tourist destination, describing the Caribbean nation as a platform for business growth and regional market access.

“We want Nigerian investors to see Grenada not simply as a Caribbean destination, but as a strategic business platform,” he added.

  • Some Nigerians Reportedly Drop Bank Account Details for Bandits During Alleged TikTok “Giveaway”

Some Nigerians have reportedly shared their bank account details with suspected bandits during a TikTok live session, in hopes of receiving part of money allegedly linked to kidnapping ransom payments across the country.

The development was disclosed on X (formerly Twitter) by business analyst Bolaji Fesomade, who claimed that some individuals openly submitted their account numbers to be credited during the live interaction.

    Alleged TikTok “Giveaway” Raises Concern

Fesomade alleged that a suspected bandit conducted a TikTok live session where users were invited to drop account details, with some reportedly receiving funds said to be part of ransom proceeds.

He warned that such actions could attract scrutiny from security agencies, noting that funds traced to criminal activity could lead to arrests and prosecution.

“The average citizen enables crime. When DSS traces his funds to you, expect arrest & jail time alongside him,” he wrote.

    Mixed Reactions on Social Media

Another user, identified as Danny of Owerri, supported the claim, alleging that the individuals involved were informed that the money being shared came from kidnapping ransom.

He said this did not stop some users from still submitting their account details for payment.

A legal practitioner, Foundational Egi Nupe, also expressed concern, questioning the reported incident and describing it as alarming if true.

    Backlash and Hardship Debate

The alleged incident has triggered mixed reactions online, with some Nigerians condemning the behaviour and calling for security agencies to track those involved.

Others argued that economic hardship may be pushing citizens into desperate actions, while urging caution in judging those involved without full verification.

    Verification Not Established

As of press time, the claims remain unverified, with no confirmed video evidence of the alleged TikTok live widely available. Checks referenced in the report did not produce independent footage of the incident.

However, there are circulating claims on social media suggesting that such interactions may have taken place, though details remain unclear.

  • Bamidele Atoyebi Defends Tinubu as Fuel Comment on Minimum Wage Earners Triggers Backlash

Bamidele Atoyebi, Convener of the Bola Ahmed Tinubu Ideological Group, has defended President Bola Tinubu’s economic reforms amid growing criticism over hardship in Nigeria during a live interview on Arise News.

The interview has since generated widespread reactions, particularly over his comments on fuel affordability for minimum wage earners.

    Defends Tinubu’s Economic Reforms

Atoyebi said key policy decisions under the Tinubu administration, including fuel subsidy removal and foreign exchange reforms, were necessary to strengthen Nigeria’s long-term economic stability.

He maintained that while the reforms have created short-term pressure, they were already repositioning the country for improved fiscal health.

    Fuel Comment Triggers Public Outrage

Controversy followed a remark where Atoyebi suggested that Nigerians earning the ₦70,000 minimum wage should adjust their fuel consumption to match their income level.

He also referenced the cost of filling his own vehicle, stating it could be as high as ₦157,000, a comment that quickly went viral online.

The statement drew sharp criticism from Nigerians who described it as insensitive amid rising fuel prices and worsening inflation.

    Mixed Reactions Online

The interview has divided opinion across social media platforms.

Supporters of the administration defended Atoyebi’s position, arguing that economic reforms require time and sacrifice before benefits are fully felt.

Critics, however, said the remarks reflected a disconnect from the daily struggles of ordinary Nigerians facing rising transport and living costs.

    Context of Economic Reforms

Since 2023, the Tinubu administration has implemented major economic reforms, including the removal of fuel subsidy and the unification of the foreign exchange market.

While the government insists the reforms are necessary for long-term stability, many Nigerians continue to feel the immediate impact through higher fuel prices and inflation.

  • State Police Constitutional Amendment Near as Tinubu Government Advances Framework

The Presidency has announced significant progress toward the establishment of state police, revealing that a constitutional amendment to support the initiative is expected soon.

Chief of Staff to the President, Femi Gbajabiamila, disclosed this on Thursday after a high-level consultative meeting on state police held at the Presidential Villa in Abuja.

Presidency Reports Progress on State Police

Speaking to State House Correspondents, Gbajabiamila said discussions on the framework for state police began several months ago following a directive from President Bola Tinubu.

He explained that while there is widespread support for the initiative, the process requires careful consideration of constitutional and legal issues before implementation.

“We started deliberations in the last three or four months on how to go about the establishment of state police as directed by Mr President,” he said.

“Establishing state police is not something that you do with the snap of the fingers. There is a lot involved in terms of constitution and legalities, and thank God we have now gained a lot of traction.”

    Constitutional Amendment Under Consideration

According to Gbajabiamila, discussions have advanced to the stage of considering the constitutional amendments required to create a legal foundation for state police.

He noted that the enabling legislation would follow once the constitutional amendment process is completed.

“Hopefully, the amendment will come shortly, and the details of the amendment will come after that,” he added.

“Right now, what we are looking at is the constitutional amendment itself, and then the enabling law would follow thereafter.”

    Tinubu to Receive Report

The Chief of Staff said President Tinubu would receive a detailed report on the outcome of the consultations.

He stressed that the national conversation has largely shifted from whether state police should exist to how the institution should be structured and regulated.

Gbajabiamila also reiterated that the initiative is aimed at improving grassroots security, enhancing intelligence gathering and strengthening the ability of state governments to tackle security threats.

    Top Officials Attend Meeting

The meeting was attended by several senior government officials, including Deputy Senate President Jibrin Barau, Deputy Speaker Benjamin Kalu, Attorney-General of the Federation Lateef Fagbemi, and Inspector-General of Police Tunji Disu.

The Federal Government has held a series of consultations on the proposal as part of efforts to address Nigeria’s growing security challenges through a decentralised policing structure.

  • Bayo Onanuga Warns Social Media Users After Arrest Over Abuja Security Scare

Presidential media aide Bayo Onanuga has warned that individuals who use social media to spread panic and disinformation will face consequences after the arrest of a man accused of triggering a security scare in Abuja.

Onanuga disclosed the development via his X account, stating that authorities had apprehended a suspect linked to a false alarm about an impending security breach in the Federal Capital Territory.

Suspect Accused of Spreading False Security Alert

According to the presidential aide, the suspect allegedly circulated misleading information suggesting that Abuja was under imminent security threat.

The false alert reportedly generated widespread fear among residents and disrupted normal activities, including academic programmes in some neighbouring communities.

    Presidency Backs Police Action

Reacting to the incident, Onanuga stressed that while freedom of expression remains a constitutional right, the deliberate spread of false information capable of creating panic would not be tolerated.

He noted that law enforcement agencies would continue to act against individuals whose actions undermine public trust and national security.

The presidential spokesman maintained that misinformation, particularly on sensitive security matters, poses serious risks to public order and social stability.

Call for Responsible Use of Social Media

The Presidency urged Nigerians to verify information before sharing it online, especially reports relating to security concerns.

Citizens were also advised to rely on verified sources and official channels for updates on security matters rather than unconfirmed social media posts.

Authorities said the arrest should serve as a warning to individuals who intentionally spread false narratives capable of causing fear and confusion among members of the public.

  • Police Arrest Ifechukwu Dennis Over AI-Generated Fake Tinubu Voice Note Circulation

The Nigerian Police Force has arrested Ifechukwu Dennis, identified as the alleged originator of an AI-generated voice note falsely circulated online as a recording of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu. The arrest was confirmed on Thursday by the Presidency, following a week-long controversy that spread across social media platforms.

    Presidency Confirms Arrest

Presidential Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, announced the arrest in a post on his official X account, stating that the suspect was apprehended in Benin by an IGP crack team.

“The IGP crack team has arrested Ifechukwu Dennis who originated the fake voice that he passed on to his gullible targets as President Tinubu’s voice,” Onanuga said.

He added that the Nigeria Police Force would release an official statement on the development.

    How the Controversy Began

The incident traces back to May 27, 2026, when a video involving social media activist Martins Vincent Otse, popularly known as VeryDarkMan, began circulating widely online.

In the clip, an AI-generated voice resembling President Tinubu was used to make a series of controversial claimed., including allegations about insecurity in the South-East, claims that Peter Obi was pressured to withdraw from the 2023 presidential race, and statements suggesting indifference to national hardship.

The recording triggered widespread reactions before investigations revealed that the audio had been artificially inserted into the original content.

    Investigation Clears VeryDarkMan

Media investigations later showed that VeryDarkMan did not post or author the manipulated voice note. According to findings, an unidentified individual extracted footage from his Instagram video and superimposed the AI-generated audio before recirculating it online.

Fact-checking reports confirmed that the original video contained no such statements.

    Presidency Reacts Amid Backlash

Despite clarification from investigators, the Presidency initially called for action against those responsible for the viral recording.

Onanuga had described the situation as “a clear case of egregious abuse of the social media platform,” a statement that later drew public criticism after fact-checkers cleared the activist of involvement in the fabricated audio.

The arrest now shifts attention to ongoing investigations into the creation and spread of AI-generated misinformation and its implications for digital content regulation in Nigeria.

  • Schoolchildren’s Excursion to Edo Flyover Draws Mixed Reactions Online

A group of schoolchildren in Edo State were taken on an excursion to the newly completed Ramat Park Flyover in Benin City, a development that has generated mixed reactions on social media.

The visit, which involved pupils and members of the scout movement, was captured in a viral video showing the children touring the flyover and speaking about their experience.

    Pupils Express Excitement During Visit

In the video, some of the pupils described the excursion as their first opportunity to see and walk on a flyover.

One of the pupils, Favour Chukwuma, said she had only seen flyovers in movies before the visit, while another student, Vanessa Ikuobase, expressed appreciation for the experience.

A scout member, Williams Iseghaleh, also commended the project and praised the state government for completing the infrastructure.

Flyover Built to Ease Traffic Challenges

The Ramat Park Flyover, located around the Ikpoba Hill axis of Benin City, was constructed to address traffic congestion and flooding in the area.

The project serves as a major link between important routes, including the Benin-Auchi and Benin-Asaba expressways.

The flyover is one of the flagship infrastructure projects undertaken by the administration of Monday Okpebholo since assuming office in November 2024.

Residents and motorists have reportedly welcomed the project, citing improvements in traffic movement and commercial activities around the corridor.

    Social Media Reactions Remain Divided

The excursion has attracted contrasting opinions online.

Supporters described the outing as a form of civic education that exposes children to public infrastructure and engineering projects. Some argued that such experiences could inspire interest in careers related to construction, architecture and engineering.

Critics, however, questioned why a flyover was chosen as an excursion destination, arguing that school trips are traditionally associated with museums, factories, zoos, science centres and other educational facilities.

Others suggested that the widespread attention given to the visit reflects broader conversations about infrastructure development and public expectations in Nigeria.

    Debate Extends Beyond the Excursion

Beyond the excursion itself, the development has reopened discussions about governance, infrastructure delivery and educational priorities in Edo State.

While supporters view the flyover as evidence of tangible development, critics see the reactions surrounding the excursion as a reflection of deeper challenges facing public infrastructure across the country.

The singer reacted on Thursday through a post on his X account, following reports that the party chairman was attacked by suspected political thugs.

    Davido Speaks Against Political Violence

In his statement, Davido said insecurity should not be encouraged by any political group regardless of party affiliation.

“Regardless of our political differences, everyone must make sure they are not contributing to insecurity in our nation,” he wrote.

The singer described the attack as unacceptable and called on Nigerians to reject acts of violence in the political space.

“The attack on the Chairman of Accord Party in Osogbo Local Government by political hoodlums must be condemned and rejected by all,” he added.

“If APC is sure they are popular, let’s settle this with ballot papers, not guns or weapons,” he stated.

His comments quickly attracted widespread attention on social media, generating thousands of reactions and views within hours of publication.

    Mixed Reactions Follow Statement

The singer’s intervention triggered mixed reactions online.

While many users praised him for speaking against political violence and insecurity, others accused him of being selective in his activism because of his family’s political involvement in Osun State.

Some critics argued that similar attacks involving members of other political parties had not received the same level of public attention from the singer.

Others, however, defended his comments, insisting that condemning violence should not be viewed through a partisan lens.

    Attack Raises Security Concerns

The incident comes amid growing concerns over political violence and insecurity in parts of the country ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The attack on the Accord Party chairman has renewed calls for political tolerance and peaceful democratic engagement among political actors and supporters.
