Athina Onassis was born in Neuilly-sur-Seine, France, to Christina Onassis and Thierry Roussel. Her parents divorced when she was young due to her father’s affair. After her mother’s passing, she was raised by Roussel and his later wife, Gaby Landhage.

Athina loved riding horses since she was a kid. In 2001, she got second place in a competition in Spain. She joined the Global Champions Tour as a competitive show jumper and supported the event.
