Tobi Amusan Medals Record And Career Achievements In Details

Tobi won gold medals in the 100 m hurdles and the 200 m. Additionally, she got a silver medal in the long jump at the C-USA Championships. Amusan made history by running the hurdles in 12.83 seconds at the El Paso UTEP Invitational, breaking Kim Turner’s UTEP record that had lasted for 33 years.

2018: Commonwealth and African champion

Amusan achieved her personal best time of 7.89 seconds in the 60m hurdles at the beginning of her 2018 season. She represented her country in the Birmingham World Indoor Championships and made it to the final. At the 2018 Commonwealth Games, Amusan surprised everyone by winning the race by a clear margin, beating the favorite, Danielle Williams. She also earned a bronze medal in the 4x100m relay with her teammates. Later that year, she secured her first African Championship title in the 100m hurdles event. Additionally, she won a gold medal in the 4x100m relay at the same championships.

2019: Second African Games title

In August, she won her second consecutive African Games title. Then, on October 5th at the World Championships in Doha, Qatar, she ran her fastest time ever of 12.48 seconds in the 100m hurdles qualifying rounds. The next day, in the semi-finals, she matched her personal best again and later finished fourth in the final with a time of 12.49 seconds.

2021: First Nigerian Diamond League champion

Amusan came in fourth place at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics, finishing with a time of 12.60 seconds. Afterward, she participated in the Zürich Diamond League final and emerged as the winner, setting a new African record of 12.42 seconds. This achievement surpassed the previous record of 12.44 seconds held by her fellow Nigerian athlete, Glory Alozie, for 23 years. In addition, Amusan became the first Nigerian to secure a Diamond League trophy.

2022: World, Commonwealth, African, and Diamond League champion

Amusan successfully defended her 100 m hurdles title at the African Championships in Mauritius. She completed the race in 12.57 seconds and also won a gold medal in the women’s 4 × 100 m relay. she set a new African record of 12.41 seconds in the Diamond League meet in Paris.
