Alanis Morissette was born June 1, 1974, in Ontario, Canada. She was born to Georgia Mary Ann and Alan Richard Morissette, a high-school principal, and French teacher. She attended Holy Family Catholic School for elementary school and Immaculata High School for Grades 7 and 8 before completing the rest of her high school at Glebe Collegiate Institute.
Alanis developed an interest in music at an early age; she began to play the piano at the age of 6 and composed her first song at the age of 10. She appeared on the children’s television sketch comedy You Can’t Do That on Television for five episodes when she was in junior high school.

Alanis Morissette began singing professionally in 1991, In 1991, releasing her debut album, Alanis, in Canada only. The album went platinum and a few of its tracks reached the top 40 songs on the Canadian singles chart. Her second album, Now Is the Time, was released in Canada in 1992. Three tracks on the album reached the top 40 Canada Singles Chart.
Her third studio album Jagged Little Pill was released internationally in 1995. Thanks to the album’s lead single, “You Oughta Know”, the album stayed in the top 20 on the Billboard 200 albums chart for more than a year. It sold more than 16 million copies in the U.S and 33 million copies worldwide. The album won her six Juno Awards, four grammy awards including Best Rock Album and Album of the Year, and a Brit Award for International Breakthrough Act in 1996.
