A video circulating on X has accused Senator Shehu Buba Umar of sponsoring terrorists, with a man identified as Hassan making several allegations against the lawmaker. The claims, which have gained attention online, have not been independently verified.
The video was shared on September 2, 2026, by the account @NigeriaStories and subsequently reposted by other users.
Man Makes Allegations Against Senator
In the roughly 15-minute video, Hassan claims that Buba brought three men identified as Babangida, Adam and Lema to Abuja, where they allegedly received training from Nigerian security personnel.
The post accompanying the video describes the senator as a “terrorist sponsor” and presents the allegation as breaking news. However, no evidence was provided in the video to independently establish the claims or verify the identities of the people mentioned.
Buba Has Faced Similar Allegations
Buba, who represents Bauchi South Senatorial District, has previously faced public allegations over alleged links to bandits and suspected terrorists.
One controversy in 2024 involved claims that he facilitated Hajj arrangements for Abubakar Idris, a wanted suspect. The allegation reportedly attracted the attention of security authorities and contributed to criticism of Buba’s role in the Senate.
Other allegations have also sought to link him with figures associated with banditry, including Bello Turji.
Senator Has Denied Allegations
Buba and his associates have consistently rejected allegations linking him to terrorism or banditry, describing them as politically motivated attacks and attempts to damage his reputation.
On the Hajj-related allegation, Buba maintained that individuals participating in the pilgrimage were nominated through community or religious leaders. He has also highlighted his advocacy for dialogue, peacebuilding and other non-kinetic approaches to tackling insecurity.
Some previous social media claims linking the senator to bandits have also been found to be misleading or based on unrelated footage.
