Ebonyi State Governor Francis Nwifuru has threatened to sack any local government chairman who fails to deliver their council to the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the 2027 general elections.
He made the threat on Tuesday, September 1, 2026, during the inauguration of 13 newly elected local government chairmen and their deputies at the Ecumenical Centre in Abakaliki.
Nwifuru Demands 100% APC Victory
Nwifuru told the newly inaugurated chairmen that they would be removed if the APC failed to win their respective local government areas.
“I want this information to be on the headlines of newspapers because, as politicians, we would not speak in secret,” he said.
“The chairmen know we would win in the state and if they choose to sleep and allow others to take their areas, they would be removed.”
The governor charged the chairmen to work towards a 100 per cent APC victory in the state, stressing that they must ensure the party remains dominant in their respective councils.
Governor Orders Action Against Opposition
Nwifuru also urged the chairmen not to allow opposition parties to gain ground in their areas, saying, “charity begins from home.”
He further directed them to deal with opposition parties “mercilessly” and warned that actions would begin soon.
The remarks were made in the presence of APC National Assembly members, party leaders and other stakeholders who attended the inauguration.
New Chairmen Include Umahi, Nwode
Among the newly inaugurated chairmen are Osborne Umahi, son of Minister of Works David Umahi, who was elected chairman of Ohaozara Local Government Area.
Chidi Nwode, the younger brother of the governor’s wife, was also inaugurated as chairman of Ikwo Local Government Area.
Speaking on behalf of the newly elected chairmen, one of the officials pledged that they would work to deliver an APC landslide victory in the 2027 elections.
The governor’s comments have attracted attention on social media, with the development also being shared by platforms including Instablog9ja.
No immediate response from opposition parties or further clarification from the governor’s office was available at the time of reporting.
