Viral Video Shows Family Living on Flyover Ledge

A viral video showing several people apparently living on an elevated concrete ledge beneath a flyover has triggered reactions online, with many Nigerians expressing concern over housing conditions and urban poverty.

The 15-second clip was shared by Nigerian social media platform Instablog9ja on August 23, 2026, although the exact location has not been independently confirmed.

People Seen Living Under Flyover

The video shows a woman hanging clothes on a line while a man in a white singlet handles items near several containers. Another man is seen sitting and drinking from a cup.

Household items, including a small television, water jerrycans, plastic buckets, basins, cooking utensils and other containers, are visible around the space.

Vehicles, including cars, trucks and a yellow commercial bus, can be seen moving on the road beneath the elevated structure.

Instablog9ja captioned the footage: “Viral video of an overhead bridge that got people talking.”

Location Remains Unconfirmed

The precise location of the structure has not been independently established. However, several social media users associated the footage with Lagos, where people have previously been found living under bridges and flyovers.

Areas such as Oshodi, Ojuelegba and Obalende have historically recorded informal settlements around major road infrastructure, partly reflecting the pressure created by high rents and limited affordable housing.

Some users also questioned whether the footage was genuine, with a few suggesting it could have been AI-generated. There is, however, no independent verification establishing that claim.

Housing Crisis Fuels Reactions

The unusual living arrangement generated a mixture of shock, humour and concern online. Some users focused on how the occupants managed to access and remain on the elevated structure, while others raised questions about exposure to rain, traffic noise, falling objects and other safety risks.

Others viewed the footage through the wider problem of housing affordability, arguing that extreme living arrangements can emerge when people are unable to afford conventional accommodation in major Nigerian cities.

The video has also renewed discussion about the difficulty of distinguishing genuine scenes from fabricated content as AI-generated videos become increasingly common on social media.

No government agency has publicly confirmed the location or announced any intervention concerning the people shown in the video.
