Lagos State Deputy Governor Obafemi Hamzat has vowed to clamp down on individuals who allegedly stop luxury vehicles and engage in criminal activities along the Lekki-Epe Expressway.

Hamzat made the declaration during an interview on Nigeria Info FM after host Jimi Disu raised concerns over the activities of people stopping luxury cars along the Lekki-Epe axis.

Hamzat Calls Activity Criminal

Responding to the concerns, Hamzat described the activity as criminal and said the Lagos State Government would remove those involved from the streets.

“That is criminal. And therefore, we will not allow it. So, we will take a lot of them off the street,” the deputy governor said.

The remarks followed a call by Disu for the government to address what he described as a growing menace along the Lekki-Epe corridor.

Suspects Already Arrested

Hamzat disclosed that several people had already been arrested in connection with the activities.

He said surveillance cameras installed along the road had helped security authorities identify some suspects, adding that some of those arrested had appeared before a Magistrate Court.

“A lot of people have been arrested, really. If you commit… a lot of cameras are also on that road and people have been seen,” Hamzat said.

He added that some of the arrests took place around the previous weekend.

Government Targets Lekki-Epe Security

The deputy governor’s comments come amid concerns over security and public safety along the Lekki-Epe Expressway, one of Lagos’ major traffic corridors.

Hamzat said the state government would continue taking action against people involved in criminal activities along the route.
