The Nigerian Army has opened applications for the Short Service Combatant Commission (SSCC) Course 50/2027, inviting eligible Nigerians to apply for commissioning as officers from August 14, 2026.

Application Opens August 14

The application window will close on Saturday, October 17, 2026. Applicants are required to select the SSCC option and complete the process through the Nigerian Army’s designated recruitment portal.

The Army said the application is completely free and warned applicants against unofficial websites, agents or individuals demanding payment for recruitment.

Successful candidates will undergo military training before being commissioned into the Combat Arms, including the Infantry and Armour Corps, as well as Combat Support Arms such as Artillery, Engineers, Signals and Intelligence Corps.

Who Can Apply

Applicants must be Nigerian citizens by birth and aged between 23 and 27 years as of January 10, 2027. They must also meet the Army’s medical, mental and physical fitness requirements.

Male applicants must be at least 1.68 metres tall, while female applicants must be at least 1.65 metres.

Academically, candidates must possess at least a Second Class Lower Division degree or an HND with a minimum of Lower Credit from an accredited institution. The certificates must have been obtained from 2018 onwards.

Applicants are also expected to provide documents including educational certificates, birth certificates or age declarations and certificates of state of origin, among other requirements listed on the recruitment portal.

15-Year Commission

The SSCC appointment carries a 15-year commission, with the first 10 years serving as the initial binding period on the active list. The commission may be renewed for up to five additional years, subject to applicable conditions.

The Army also stated that conversion to a Regular Combatant Commission is possible but not automatic.

The Nigerian Army has urged applicants to rely only on information released through its verified channels, national newspapers and recognised platforms.
