Davido Replies Bashir Ahmad in Heated Exchange Over Grammys, Politics

Afrobeats star David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, has responded to former presidential aide Bashir Ahmad after the two exchanged words on X over Grammy nominations, political achievements and the forthcoming Osun State governorship election.

The clash escalated on Thursday, August 6, 2026, amid political tensions surrounding the August 15 election, where Davido’s uncle, Governor Ademola Adeleke, is seeking re-election.

Davido Mocks Ahmad’s Primary Result

The exchange began after Davido mocked Ahmad over his performance in a previous All Progressives Congress (APC) primary election.

“U got 16 votes bro in primaries STFU!!” Davido wrote, accompanied by a laughing emoji.

Ahmad, a former digital communications aide to late President Muhammadu Buhari and an APC chieftain, responded by turning the discussion to Davido’s Grammy record.

Ahmad Challenges Davido Over Grammys

Sharing an image of a Grammy trophy, Ahmad wrote: “We have talked enough about the number of votes I got in my primaries. Can we now talk about the number of Grammy Awards you have won from your five nominations, David? Fair is fair.”

Davido has received multiple Grammy nominations but has yet to win the award.

The singer, however, rejected the suggestion that his career should be measured by Grammy wins.

Davido Fires Back

Responding to Ahmad, Davido highlighted his commercial success, global audience and influence before turning the criticism back on the politician.

“You measure success by one award. I measure it by sold-out arenas, billions of streams, global influence, and people singing my songs across continents,” he said.

Davido also criticised Ahmad’s political record, saying his years working with the former president had not translated into enough impact in his community.

“You had government backing and still couldn’t convince enough people to back you in your small constituency,” Davido wrote.

He added: “We all have different trophies Bashir, I’ll keep inspiring the young ones and generations to come while you wait for the next government job to get crumbs.”

Osun Election Adds Political Tension

The social media clash comes as political activity intensifies ahead of the Osun governorship election.

Davido has openly campaigned for Governor Ademola Adeleke, while Ahmad has remained involved in APC politics in the state.

The exchange has generated widespread reactions online, with supporters of both men weighing in on the Grammy debate, political records and the singer’s role in the Osun election.
