American herpetologist Joseph Bruno Slowinski conducted in-depth studies on poisonous snakes. He established Contemporary Herpetology, the first herpetological journal to be published online, while serving as a lecturer at the University of California, Berkeley. When Slowinski was conducting research in a remote area of Myanmar in 2001, a Suzhen’s krait bit him.

After numerous unsuccessful attempts to get medical help, including ones by Mark W. Moffett, he passed away 29 hours later. Communication with the embassy was difficult after the terrorist attacks of September 11, and by the time the embassy organized a helicopter, the weather was particularly bad.

As a result, Slowinski could not be transported by helicopter to a hospital, and it was also impossible to transport medical supplies to the campsite. The herpetological community suffered a significant loss with the passing of Slowinski. He was a talented scientist and a fervent supporter of protecting snakes. Three snake species have been named after him in his honour: Pantherophis slowinskii, Cyrtodactylus slowinskii, Bungarus slowinskii

In this world, there are a lot of people that have delusions. There are those who claim to be able to communicate with the dead and with animals. Even a lunatic pastor who believes that everyone should handle deadly snakes for their own good could cross your path. American Pentecostal evangelist George W. Hensley became famous for his ability to deal with reptiles.

His interpretation was that all Christians were required to handle deadly snakes under the New Testament. Hensley advised his followers to handle the snakes they saw frequently while performing his services. He allegedly endured hundreds of bites and managed to survive without any medical attention. But on July 24, 1955, he had bad luck.

Hensley was attempting to put a snake into a jar when it bit him, and of course, the venom quickly entered his system and caused excruciating pain. He also refused medical attention, which led to his death being classified as a suicide.

Alexander was the King of Greece, crowned in 1917. He was basically a puppet king with no powers and found himself in a scandal when he married a commoner. Although history has unfairly described King Alexander as a careless pet owner who died from a bite “from his pet monkey”, the 27-year-old monarch actually died after defending his pet dog from an attack during a walk through the Royal Gardens.

In 1920, the king was bitten by a monkey while he was attempting to break a brawl between his dog and another monkey. Even though he was treated immediately, the wound became infected later. Although the doctors considered amputation, nobody wanted to take responsibility. He died a few weeks later, at the age of 27.
