2023:I will open up the economy, tackle insecurity – Atiku promises
The presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, Alhaji Abubakar Atiku, took his campaign for the 2023 general elections to Katsina State on Tuesday, where he, among others, promised to reopen the Nigerian economy, tackle insecurity and ensure quality education.
He declared while addressing his party faithful at the Muhammed Dikko Stadium, Katsina that “Whatever development you see in Katsina State today was done by the PDP. This stadium, roads, institutions and state assembly complex were built by the PDP, including the Government House.
“APC has done nothing; they only trade insecurity and hunger. We need to vote for the PDP so that we can continue to make laudable achievements across the country.
“The time to move forward has come. Leave that other journey and return to the PDP.
“One of the five things I will prioritise if allowed to become President is tackling the issue of insecurity and ensuring that peace prevails across the country. By God’s grace, we will bring this back. Second, we will work to restore the lost economic glory of the country. We will open all the borders across the country. Fourth, we will ensure business owners are not arrested or shot at just because they were found to have a bag of (smuggled) rice with them.
“Also, we will ensure our children go back to study at the universities as the institutions are theirs.”
His running mate, Governor Ifeanyi Okowa, assured Nigerians that their administration would move Nigeria forward if elected to run the country.
Okowa said, “In Atiku, we have a man that you can trust; he is a man with great experience; we have presented the best choice for you as a party. Nigeria will be better again if Atiku wins.”
Former Delta Governor Emmanuel Uduaghan also praised the former Vice President, saying he (Atiku) is the best man to lead Nigeria after 2023.
Highlights of the event included the announcement of the defection of some former APC members in Katsina State, including the immediate past Secretary to the State Government, Alhaji Muhammed Inuwa, to the PDP.
