Here is a list of the 10 most used cusswords in Nigeria.
Just like anywhere else in the World, Nigerians throw painful and disgusting insults at each other and also make use of profanities and cusswords.
Although some of these cusswords originate from indigenous languages such as the Yoruba, Hausa, Igbo pidgin-English, and even English language, they cut across tribal lines and are generally considered as bad words.
Here is a list of the 10 most used cusswords in Nigeria.
1. Werey: This is probably the most used cuss word in the southern part of Nigeria, It is the Yoruba interpretation for a mad man.
2. Mumu: Mumu also known as Maga is a pidgin word that is used to signify a fool, it is also used to represent someone that is gullible and can be easily swindled.
3. Your Fada / Your Mother:Â This is a direct insult to one’s parent based on the birth gender. However, this cuss word has different variations based on language.
4. Aboki: this cussword originated from the Hausa language, which means my friend, however southerners in Nigeria use this word as a denigrating term for Northerners.
5. Anuofia: this is a popular cussword in the Eastern part of the country which men’s a fool or a wild animal depending on the context in which it is used.
6. Bastard: An English word that means an illegitimate child or mongrel. It’s used as a noun to describe someone who gave you an unpleasant experience.
7. Ozuo: Ozuo is a pidgin term that is used to describe a foolish person a synonym of Mumu
8. Ode: this is a Yoruba word that comes in several variants such as Ode Oshi which means stupid fuck, Ode Buruku which means bloody fool, Ode Alailopolo which means senseless fool
9. Ewu/Eran: these are Igbo and Yoruba words (Respectively) that mean Goat. It is used to insult or refer to someone stubborn in Nature.
10. Ashawo:Â This word originated from the pidgin language, It is often used to refer to a prostitute and sometimes used to refer to a loose woman.
