While a person’s sexual preference or gender should no longer be headline news, it’s important for youth – particularly queer youth who are struggling to come to terms with their own identity – to have visible role models to look up to and find inspiration from in mainstream media.

1. Noah Schnapp

Noah Cameron Schnapp is an American actor. He gained recognition for playing Will Byers in the Netflix science fiction horror series Stranger Things. His film roles include Roger Donovan in Steven Spielberg’s historical drama Bridge of Spies and the voice of Charlie Brown in the animated The Peanuts Movie, His breakthrough came in July 2016, when he began starring as Will Byers in the Netflix science fiction horror television series Stranger Things.

Shinjiro Atae is a Japanese singer-songwriter, actor, and model. He debuted as a member of the co-ed group AAA in 2005. He starred in television and film projects including the live-action adaptations of Psychic Detective Yakumo. In November 2020, Atae announced through his official website and social media that he was putting his entertainment career on hold following AAA’s hiatus in 2021. On August 11, 2021, right before he went on hiatus, he released his second album, This is Where We Promise.

According to an online report, Shinjiro Atae came out as a guy at a fan event in Tokyo in July. For years, according to him ”I struggled to accept a part of myself…But now after all I have been through, I finally have the courage to open up to you about something” he told his fans.”I am a guy man”.

4. Adore Delano

Dani Noriega is an American drag queen, singer-songwriter, and television personality known under the stage name Adore Delano. She appeared as a contestant on the sixth and seventh season of American Idol in 2008 and later competed as Adore Delano on the sixth season of RuPaul’s Drag Race, placing in the final three.

Adore Delano came out as transgender in July. In a video shared with her millions of Instagram followers, Delano said she initially came out as trans when she was a teenager but went back in the closet when she competed on “American Idol” in 2008.

5. Ncuti Gatwa

Mizero Ncuti Gatwa is a Rwandan-Scottis actor, Who began his career on stage at the Dundee Repertory Theatre. He was nominated for an Ian Charleson Award for his performance as Mercutio in a 2014 production of Romeo & Juliet at HOME. Gatwa had his breakout role as gay teenager Eric Effiong in the Netflix comedy-drama series Sex Education 2019–2023.

In August Ncuti Gatwa came out publicly as queer in an interview with Elle UK published in August. Gatwa, who played one of the Kens in this summer’s wildly popular “Barbie” blockbuster, shared a touching story about meeting “another queer Rwandan person” at Manchester Pride several years ago. At the time, he told the magazine, “I thought I was the only one in the world.”

Monique Angela Hicks is an American stand-up comedian and actress popularly known as Mo’Nique.She first gained recognition for her work in stand-up comedy, debuting as a member of The Queens of Comedy. In 2002, she received a Grammy Award nomination for Best Comedy Album. She was featured in soul singer Anthony Hamilton’s video “Sista Big Bones”, the second single from his album Ain’t Nobody Worryin’. She hosted the 2003 and 2004 BET Awards and appeared as the host again for the 2007 BET Awards.

In April She told a tearful story about how she never came out to her grandmother due to her grandmother’s tense relationship with Mo’Nique’s Uncle Tina, who was assigned female at birth but presented as masculine, according to the Gay Times. but she later came out to her husband and said, ‘Daddy, I want to be with another woman sexually.’ And he looked at me, so beautifully and so patient and so loving, and said,.. me too.

7. Wayne Brady

Wayne Alphonso Brady is an American television host, comedian, actor, and singer. He is a regular on the American version of the improvisational comedy television series Whose Line Is It Anyway. Brady is a five-time Emmy Award winner, winning his first for his work on Whose Line? in 2003, two more in the next year for The Wayne Brady Show, and two for Let’s Make a Deal.

Wayne Brady came out as pansexual in an interview with People magazine that was published in August. LGBTQ media advocacy group GLAAD defines pansexual as a descriptor for someone “who can form enduring physical, romantic, and/ or emotional attractions to any person, regardless of gender identity.

8. Gabby Windey

Gabriela Maria Windey is an American television personality who appeared on season 26 of The Bachelor and co-starred in season 19 of The Bachelorette alongside Rachel Recchia. In 2021, she was the co-winner of the Pop Warner Humanitarian Award for her service on the frontline of the pandemic. She is the first woman and NFL cheerleader to receive the award.

Former “Bachelorette” star and Denver Broncos cheerleader Gabby Windey revealed that she’s in a relationship with writer and comedian Robby Hoffman. In an Instagram post shared in August, Windey included several photos of herself and Hoffman and cheekily wrote, “Told you I’m a girls girl!!

9. Jakub Jankto

Jakub Jankto is a Czech professional footballer who plays for Serie A club Cagliari, and the Czech Republic national team. A versatile player, Jankto can play as a full-back, left midfielder, or left winger. Jankto signed for Udinese from Slavia Prague in 2014 for a reported fee of €700,000.[2] Without making his league debut for the team, he went on loan to Serie B side Ascoli in 2015.

Czech Republic soccer player Jakub Jankto came out as gay in a video shared on social media in February. “I am homosexual, and I no longer want to hide,” he said in the video, which has nearly 18 million views on X, formerly known as Twitter.

Billie Eilish Pirate Baird O’Connell is an American singer and songwriter. She first gained public attention in 2015 with her debut single “Ocean Eyes”, written and produced by her brother Finneas O’Connell, with whom she collaborates on music and live shows. Eilish has received multiple accolades, including seven Grammy Awards, two American Music Awards, two Guinness World Records, and three MTV Video Music Awards.

The 21-year-old singer attended Variety’s Hitmakers event on December 2, 2023, where she received the award for Film Song of the Year for her hit “What Was I Made For” from the Barbie movie. While walking on the red carpet she was asked if she intended to come out as part of her Variety cover story. “No, I didn’t,” Eilish revealed with a laugh. she ended her comments with another confirmation: “But yeah, I am for the girls.”
