Who is Young Cister?

Esteban Cisterna better known as Young Cister is a famous Chilean singer exponent of the Latin trap and rap genre who has managed to stand out in music with great hits such as Vámonos, Algo de ti, Wow, Sin tí, among others. Young Cister was born on August 30, 1996 in the Quilicura neighborhood, located in the capital city of Santiago de Chile and is currently considered one of the best urban music singers throughout his country.

Beginnings in the life of Young Cister

Esteban Cisterna, better known by the stage name of Young Cister in the world of musical entertainment, was born in the Quilicura neighborhood, located in the capital city of Santiago de Chile, back in 1996. Since he was a child he began to be interested in venturing in the world of music and it was the different experiences that he lived led him to make the decision to follow his vocation and dedicate his life to music, with the main objective of raising social awareness, this is how  Young Cister himself commented in a recent interview.

“More than with my music, as a person. At some point I know that I will have a lot of arrivals, many people, masses, especially young people. As a person I would like to achieve changes that we all see: the injustices that are happening, how fascism is getting closer and closer to our country and Latin America, human rights, inequality, all these issues are very important to me. I always try to raise awareness through stories on Instagram and not only speaking from theory, but also from action, trying to support the social causes that are in the fore as much as possible. The fact that I sing trap does not mean that I do not have the critical analysis to see what is happening in my environment.”

It is considered that the beginnings of his artistic career occurred in 2011, when Young Cister  participated in various local groups, although we must point out that it would not be until 2015 when he released his first mixtape known to the public under the name of “Cisternasty Mixtape”, which was included within the trap genre.

At the beginning of his artistic career, Young Cister was dedicated to interpreting songs registered within the genre of cumbia villera , within a musical group whose members were friends of his from the Quilicura neighborhood .

After some time, Young Cister  decided to experiment with synthesizers, thus replacing the güiro and keyboards, while becoming increasingly adept at using audio processors that are used to mask musical errors and inaccuracies. this is something known as Auto-Tune.

For Young Cister , the trap genre has marked his musical career, as he expressed it in a comment on the Internet: “For me, trap is divided into lifestyle, which we all know where it comes from, from the slums, from traffic , of all that; and there is trap music, which has been modernized a bit. Since it reached the top of the top genres, it has taken another branch.”

Finally, after taking his first steps in music,  Young Cister  launched two well-known EPs on the market in 2017 under the names of Little King and 96.

In the year 2018 Young Cister  released the edition of his album considered debut, titled XTACISS, with which he represented a new way of making music, including summer and romantic rhythms, not forgetting dark and street sounds, which have accompanied him since he began in the world of musical entertainment. It is interesting to comment on the name of this album, of which Young Cister explains that he had the intention of mixing two concepts in one word: the name of the drug “ecstasy” and a part of his artistic name “Ciss”, since it seemed the most correct name because he considers that his music is like a new drug, which can make those who listen to it addicted, reaching more and more people, producing unique sensations and making those who listen to it enjoy unforgettable experiences.

In the songs that make up this album , Young Cister  intended to capture his own experiences. This is how he explains to us that in general he talks about his dreams in his songs, sometimes his songs talk about issues like money, but he tries to capture these issues in a different way, because he doesn’t want the money just for himself, but to help to your family and friends who live around you. In his own words  Of him Young Cister  commented: “It is not about singing about money, and only for me, or that I have many jewels, but rather enjoying it with my family, being happy.”

Young Cister writes songs that deal with other topics such as enjoying every moment of life with loved ones in different environments such as discotheques or parties in general, also his music is aimed at a youth audience, and sometimes focuses on topics of social interest that include problems such as repression by the police in neighborhoods such as the one in which it has grown, corruption and social injustices by politicians and businessmen. Although yes, Young Cister emphasizes that these types of issues touch them in a very superficial way, since it is not their editorial line.

For the year 2019, Young Cister would launch a series of singles that would propel him to fame in his artistic career. This is how he tells us about his source of inspiration that: “ I saw what was happening and I could not remain silent, if it is something that I have seen with my own eyes since I was a child. I always try to convey what is happening on the street through my music”. In the same way we are aware that in that same year he released to the public the EP known by the name of ¿ Perreamos ?, which we must mention was a great success.

Throughout those years , the singer, rapper and composer Young Cister  had already consolidated many musical successes such as “Don’t Play, If I had money, Flex with Big Angelo, Let’s go with Dref Quila, Like Cobain (Ima Rockstar), Lover, Attitude, Plop, See you again, Xulita in collaboration with Kaydy Cain , La Camita, Sigo pensándote, Callau”, among others, which showed that he was undoubtedly one of the greatest exponents of music in Chile and worldwide.

Prior to this, Young Cister and Polimá WestCoast started music together thanks to the friendship that led them to work together on different projects, being signed by the Sony Music label in June 2018 under the project ” Brokeboyz “, where they would publish ” Equilibrio ” . , their first album together but without neglecting their careers as soloists.

EQILIBRIO was the recording material of  Young Cister where he collaborated with the artist known by the name of Polimá Westcoast , this album is to our knowledge that it is made up of 12 songs, which are characterized by having a hard and pure trap sound, for whose production required a great effort. In the words of Young Cister : “It’s a record that I really like and so do people. They always highlight the sound that is very neat and of high quality. It was a very beautiful process that I lived in my life. Everyone knows what we went through and still the reception was super good.”

His successful career would be somewhat affected after  Young Cister  was arrested in April 2021 along with the artist Pablo Chill-e when they were recording a video clip. The police justified the arrest by arguing that they were violating health regulations due to the coronavirus pandemic that was being experienced throughout the world at the time, but for their part, the artists accused them of repression and arresting them for working. Young Cister considered this arrest totally unjustified and in this regard made a post on his Instagram account in which one could read: “We are music workers and always legal, but their institutions do not want to see young people emerge with our art”. Finally the GOTIKA video was released with great success a few days later.
