Who is Chef Benito Molina?

Benito Molina Dubost better known only as “Chef Benito” is a talented chef and television star who became famous after appearing with a MasterChef Mexico judge in 2015 and until 2020 when he was fired, in addition to having his restaurant “Manzanillo”. Chef Benito was born on October 3, 1968 in Baja California and is currently married to his wife and also chef Solange Muris with whom he had a daughter named Olivia.

Beginnings in the life of Chef Benito Molina

Benito Molina Dubost, better known only as Benito Molina , was born in 1968 in Mexico City. It is our knowledge that the beginnings of his artistic career occurred when he was 15 years old and worked as a garrotero in the restaurant known by the name of Maxim’s de París, located in Mexico City.

Later, Benito Molina  began to study at the New Englad Culinary Institute in Vermont, in the United States.

Throughout his career, Benito Molina  has stood out for his participation in different festivals such as Pacificooks, Entre amigos, Fiestas de la Vendimia and the New World Wine and Food Festival . Back in 2006 he was chosen as one of the 100 best chefs by Saveur magazine, thanks to his smoked oysters. While at California’s Bay Aquarium, he recognized her for his preference to use sustainable seafood.

A short time later, in 2009, Monocle magazine recognized Benito Molina as one of the best chefs and restaurateurs in Mexico ; In addition, Travel & Leisure ranked him with his Manzanilla restaurant as one of the best in our country.

Later, in 2014, the same Manzanilla restaurant was ranked number 25 on the list of the 50 Best Restaurants in Latin America, a great success for  Benito Molina’s culinary and business career.

We cannot ignore the fact that Chef Benito Molina is co-author of The Best Recipes of the Top Chefs in Mexico.

This is how over the years, Benito Molina has stood out for his exquisite and unique recipes, in addition to Chef Benito Molina standing  out for his role as a judge on the reality show known as MasterChef together with  Chef Betty ,  Chef Adrián Herrera  and then  Chef José Ramón Castillo joined but in 2020 Chef Benito  ‘s departure from the program was announced, for no apparent reason. 

Chef Adrián Herrera spoke with the following words regarding the departure of Benito Molina from the Master Chef program in various interviews in which his opinion was asked:“I think you have to stop talking about him because he is no longer there. It is a constant question. You have to talk about who we are, what we are doing and where we are going… We have not realized that he is not there. Last year he was 4 or 5 episodes without coming and the show was really nice without him being there. This time we didn’t agree, which is a pity but not like that. We wish you all the good and success in representing the food of Baja California…I believe that we are all always closing something. It is a very difficult year. I wish we could have him as a guest so they can see that we have always had the same affection for him. People believe that you can’t get off a success, but yes.”

Chef Benito was thus fired from MasterChef Mexico after a few seasons and was replaced by Chef José Ramón Castillo  , with whom they later had several confrontations on social networks. But later Chef Benito was announced as part of the MasterChef Latino jury panel.

Later, Chef Benito Molina participated in the television program called Bake Off Mexico , which was available for you to enjoy in streaming format on the HBO Max platform. Benito participated as one of the strict judges of the skill in the kitchen of different personalities from the entertainment world such as: Sandra Itzel, Giovanna Romo, Marcelo Lara, Gabriel Coronel, Manu Nna ,  Yuri , Lorena Herrera , Roberto Carlo , Sergio Arau , Kenia Os , and Omar Fierro . 

What we do have to point out is that Benito Molina has not completely disassociated himself from Master Chef, since he currently holds the position of director of the MasterChef School in Mexico.

The love story between El Chef Benito and Solange Muris began when she was invited to join the La Esquina bistro, at that time Benito Molina was the main manager of said restaurant.

The close relationship they began to have made them become boyfriends and later became husbands, but their love not only remained something personal as Chef Benito and Solange Muris joined their culinary talents to be partners and founders of Manzanilla, their restaurant located in Ensenada, Baja California.

The couple later expected their first daughter but had problems with the pregnancy. Solange, her daughter was premature and was born at 25 weeks gestation. Solange Muris realized that something in her pregnancy was not going well when she woke up one day with a wet bed because without realizing she had lost amniotic fluid, she quickly went to her doctor and they underwent a procedure to save her daughter.

Sadly , the daughter of El Chef Benito and Solange Muris named Olivia suffered from childhood cerebral palsy, which only affected her motor skills. Her parents say that this has not stopped Olivia, because she does not feel different and only requires help to go to the bathroom. Her daughter currently has no problem accepting her disability and has even come to take it in the best possible way, even joking about how she had that problem; “I was born premature, that is, my parents, who are cooks, were left raw.”
