Brenda Wireko Mensah, better known by the stage name Bree Runway , was born on the date of November 18, 1992 in Hackney, London, England. She is to our knowledge that she is of Ghanaian ancestry. She grew up in a neighborhood that was nicknamed “death mile” due to the high number of crimes and conflicts that took place there.

When she was the young age of 9,  Bree Runway experienced discrimination and bullying because of her dark skin color. Something that she at the time she tried to change with a chemical with which she expected her to whiten her skin, however, the result was a bad reaction that left her skin very bad. Fortunately, soon after this problem could be fixed. This is how, later on, all those bullying experiences helped her to strengthen herself, accept herself as she was, love herself, and embark on her artistic career.

This is how, in her own words , Bree Runway spoke about the musical genre to which she belongs, ensuring that she feels like a very experimental artist :“I’ve always felt the need to correct others when they refer to me as the new R&B sensation. I’ve said it before and I’ll say it now, I’m not into the R&B music genre. I need to reinforce this because we live in a world that is obsessive with labeling and locking up artists in boxes called categories or genres, where singers end up getting lost and that’s why they don’t get renewed and go bankrupt or lose success. So, people don’t feel comfortable when a singer is not defined by this or that genre, because they can’t label him, they can’t classify him according to what he should be for them, and that, from my point of view, is very wrong. ”

Bree Runway would be a great success when she won the BET Awards with the category of “best new international act” ; and was nominated at the Rated Awards as “female artist of the year”, she was also nominated at the BBC awards with the category of “sound 2021) and at the MOBO Awards with the category of “video of the year” thanks to the song called “Apeshit”.
