Who is Mijares?

José Manuel Mijares Morán better known only as Manuel Mijares is a famous Mexican singer and songwriter exponent of pop ballads and pop rock  who throughout his long musical career has achieved musical successes such as; Soldier of Love, To love each other more, If I fall in love, Bella, The privilege of loving, among others. Manuel Mijares was born on February 7, 1958 in Mexico City and for 14 years he was married to his now ex-wife Lucero , with whom he had two children, Lucero Mijares and José Manuel Mijares.

Beginnings in the life of Mijares

José Manuel Mijares Morán, better known as simply Manuel Mijares in the world of musical entertainment, came into the world on the date of February 7, 1958 in Mexico City. His parents were José María Mijares and María del Pilar Morán.

The beginnings of his artistic career had a lot to do with the influence of his mother, as he himself has recognized in various interviews. This is how back in the year 1981 Manuel Mijares  participated in the event known as the Youth Values ​​Festival , in which he stood out for his great humanity, since we must mention that on one occasion he lent some tracks to a colleague of the contest, whose father had destroyed the ones she had created.

Later , Manuel Mijares  dedicated himself to working in night bars in Japan, in addition to making some “jingles” for advertisements, and later joined the choir of the famous singer known as Emmanuel with whom, curiously, years later he would go on a successful tour. which lasted for many years. 

A little later, in the year 1985, Manuel Mijares was the representative of Mexico at the OTI Song Festival , where he was in charge of interpreting the song called “Soñador”, which went so well that he was named as “artist revelation” of said festival. We cannot ignore the fact that that same year he received the opportunity from EMI Capitol to record what would be his first two albums.

A year later  Manuel Mijares  released what was his first EP known under the name Manuel Mijares. What we know about this album is that it was made up of 10 musical songs, among which the ones called: “Bella”, “Poco a poco” and “Siempre” stood out particularly.. Being that the first two songs were composed by the famous JR Flórez, while the third song was composed by the Nicaraguan named Hernaldo Zúñiga, who shortly after would contribute to the album the songs known as: “Volvere a amar” and “Al caminar ”. This record was such a success that it was reissued under the title of Soñador, incorporating the song that made him rise to fame at the OTI Festival. We cannot ignore the fact that it was after the publication of this album that Manuel Mijares became a successful artist internationally.

The following year, in 1987, Manuel Mijares  released to the public his second album known as Amor y Rock and Roll. It is from the publication of this album that his artistic name undergoes slight modifications, since he begins to be known only as Mijares, instead of Manuel Mijares. From this album in particular, the songs of: “Love did not die” and “A lot of summer” stood out; while in some countries the musical theme called “Poco a poco” was included in this album.

Later, in the years of 1988 and 1989,  Manuel Mijares made the presentation of the albums that were known under the titles of One among a thousand and A discreet man. From that moment he would not stop releasing more and more albums like; Collezione Privata (Nuda Libertá) (from 1990), Let nothing separate us (from 1991), María Bonita (1992), My best songs (1993), Chained (1993), Live in me (1994), The meeting ( 1995, in live format), Dear friend (1996), To be without you (1997), To the star of my life (1997), and The privilege of loving (1998).

We cannot forget that it was in 1999 when Manuel Mijares was  the winner of the TVyNovelas Awards for the song “El privilegio de amar” that was used in the telenovela of the same name. A few years earlier, in 1994, he appeared again at the TVyNovelas Awards thanks to the success of the song “Corazón salvaje”, which was used as the main theme for the telenovela of the same name.

Later, in the first decade of the 21st century, Manuel Mijares  stood out in a particular way for the publication of the albums known under the titles of: Historias de un amor (of the year 2000), Dulce veneno (2002), Live (2002), Historia (2004), Capuccino (2004), Mijares: The Basics (2005), Honor to whom honor deserves, Come with me (2006), Limited Edition (2006), Privilege of loving: The best of me (2007), Swing in your language (2007), Let’s talk about love (2008), 40 Hits (2008), Live like this (2009), Live like this – Volume II (2010).

The following year, in 2011,  Manuel Mijares released the live album that became known under the title 25 Zona Preferente. A short time later in 2012, he released the album called Si me tenías, also in live format. While in 2013 and 2014 he released live albums known by the names of The Best of Emmanuel & Mijares In Concert Vol. 1 and Vol. 2. We cannot leave out the albums of Canto por ti ( 2013) as well as No se me acaba el alma (2014), as if that were not enough, he had great success with the single “I declare myself guilty” that he premiered with  María José , in addition to appearing on the album “Primera Fila” by Yuri  performing together the theme “Hope”.

The already famous singer Manuel Mijares , in 2015, released the album La más completa colección, for 2016 he released the album of Mijares 30 Sinfónico from El Palacio de Bellas Artes. A short time later, in 2018, he released the album Rompecabezas. While in the past year 2020 he released the album Merry Christmas! He also highlighted his collaboration with María León  on the song “Don’t go yet”. 

At the beginning of 2021  Manuel Mijares  surprised the media by appearing at the Televisa facilities in a wheelchair, in this regard he spoke about the reasons for his state of health: “They operated on me, but I am fine, now they have put my prosthesis on me knee and we had to do it before but we already went to do it.” To which he added that he had previously undergone two knee operations due to his fondness for practicing a sport that is considered quite risky: “I played a lot of American football, the first operation was done in 1973, and the second I had in 1996 and now this one.”

In August 2021, the reality show called “El Retador” premiered in which some participants should show their best talents to continue within the program and thus become true experts in their respective fields.

The jury of “El Retador” was made up of Itatí Cantoral ,  but it was also surprising to see Lucero together with Mijares , who since their separation had not had such a close television presentation, so their mere presence was quite an event. It also had the presence of Berth Oh , one of Mexico’s favorite youtubers; Consuelo Duval and Sofía Escobosa as hosts of the reality show that at that time was competing against “Exatlón” on TV Azteca directed by Antonio Rosique .

Regarding the love life of Manuel Mijares in 1997, he married the also singer  Lucero ,  however this relationship saw its end in 2011. In this regard, Manuel Mijares has spoken before the entertainment press explaining that despite their separation, they continued to get along as good friends: “We have always gotten along very well; There was never any shouting or hating or anything, she worked a lot, she did soap operas, more shows and everything; Me too, so we decided to be each one for her part. ”

After Lucero , in 2017, it was revealed that Manuel Mijares was in a loving relationship with the interior designer named Camila Pallares , although this courtship was not as long as the one he had with Lucero , since by 2019 , it was learned that Manuel Mijares  had returned to being single. To this day, he has spoken with the following words about his love life: “I’m calm, right now there’s no one… I don’t want to be so radical as to say” I’m never going to get married, “but not for now, I’m very calm, I don’t even think about it.” Manuel Mijares  assured that he preferred to dedicate himself to his work and to live with his children, the fruit of his love with Lucero, who respond to the names of: Lucero and José Manuel Mijares Hogaza.
