German Ortega

Germán Ortega Carpynteiro, was born on July 15, 1968 in the city of Puebla, he is Freddy’s younger brother . In his youth he was a contestant in various choreographies with the group known as Venganza Marinera. In 1990 he was on a local show called the Good Luck Club, where he played a harlequin, where we know he was the main attraction. Later he was with his brother at a show in the establishment called Cadillac, which we know is owned by the family of Eric Rubín. From there they would launch into writing comedy to participate in various contests, driven by the comment that at that time writers and comedy shows were needed on television.

Freddy Ortega

For his part, Miguel Alfredo Ortega Carpynteiro, better known in show business as Freddy , was born on May 29, 1964 in the city of Puebla. Both Freddy and Germán chose to dedicate themselves to the world of entertainment and comedy along with their other brother Luis Ernesto Cano who was born on December 18, 1960 in Mexico City, and died in Mexico City on May 2, 2014; he became known as “The Third Mascabrother”.

At the beginning of this great duo of comedians, Germán and Freddy Ortega , together with Luis de Llano, formed a group of comedians known as Los Mascabrothers.  The emergence of this group began when there were only the Ortega brothers: Germán and Freddy, who in a duo They began to appear both in the theater and on television , they began to have great success and that is how they chose to create an artistic name, in several interviews they have declared that this nickname arose spontaneously. The story they tell is that they came to a meeting with the producer Luis de Llano, who was actually casting a group of 15 people to form a rock band.

The name that had originally been chosen for them was “Los Mascabrones” , however another producer member of the cast, named Marco Flavio, objected to keeping this name because he considered it quite explicit, so after brainstorming he stayed. the artistic name of “Los Mascabrothers” . Finally, the formation of a rock band did not materialize, however , Germán and Freddy Ortega together with Luis Ernesto Cano decided to found their own humor association with this name.

The Mascabrothers have appeared in various television programs in the comedy genre. Thus we can mention the television series known by the name of Unknown Fun, which was broadcast between the years of 1998 and 1999, and which was made up of various comic sketches.

“El Tercer mascabrother” Luis Ernesto Cano , in his artistic career he managed to stand out in La Revista Increíble by Silvia Pinal, a production that we were able to enjoy back in 1979, where he gave life to the character of Wilwis, a little later, in 1981, He would appear in the program known as ¡¡¡Cachún Cahún Ra-Ra!!, where he was in charge of playing the role of Narciso. Later, in 1988, he would appear in two episodes of Single Dad. And also during this year and until 1994 he would be in ¡Anabel!, giving life to different characters.

In the year 1990 we could see it in the cinematographic tapes known by the names of Better loved than burned and The rapist cat. Already around 1992 and up to 1995 we would see him appear giving life to various characters in Al derecho y al derbez with  Eugenio Derbez and in La Cuchufleta, giving life to various characters.

The Third Mascabrother dies

It was in 2014 when terrible news was released for the world of comedy and entertainment in Mexico, as the terrible death of Luis Ernesto Cano, better known in the entertainment world as “the third Mascabrother”, was announced, due to the fact that His artistic career was marked by his participation with the brothers Germán and Freddy Ortega.

Initially it was said that Luis Ernesto Cano had died of a sudden heart attack, however, shortly after his brother Alejandro brought to light his true death, news in which we realized that since days before, the actor, writer and comedian had already seriously deteriorated due to his state of health due to kidney cancer . It was also revealed that before he died, as if he had a presentiment, Luis Ernesto had been recording videos with his children, to leave them as testimony after his departure from this world, the same videos that were published on YouTube after his death.

Freddy and Germán Ortega had to face the death of their brother and continue with their projects in the comedy “El Show de Los Mascabrothers” where they presented their most emblematic characters such as: La Jitomata and Perejila, Franky and Igor, El Peje vs Trump , and many more.

In 2016 “Los Mascabrothers” would be banned from Televisa , a television station to which they gave many hits after, according to Germán Ortega, he and his brother Freddy attended the TV Azteca program “Ventaneando” with Pati Chapoy , which upset Televisa but the brothers made sure they weren’t exclusive anymore so they could do whatever they wanted.

“I know that we are banned from Televisa, something that was unfair to me, because we did not end up fighting. When we left the company they told us that we could do whatever we wanted, and that’s what we did. To date, what we are aware of is that our name and image cannot appear. We only have gratitude for that company. Where is the freedom of expression?… It’s work… We were exclusive for seven years without doing anything. I felt like ‘ El Chicharito ‘ on the bench”.

Finally, after several years of being banned from Televisa, Los Mascabrothers premiered the program “Relatos macabrones” a Mexican comedy series that premiered on Las Estrellas on August 31, 2020, starring Freddy Ortega and Germán Ortega and in which each episode was made up of three sketches that revolve around horror stories, with a dose of humor told by Frank and Igor. The series has been renewed for a second season, which premiered on April 16, 2021.
