Zidane confirms Real Madrid keen interesting in signing Ronaldo

Zinedine Zidane, the Real Madrid boss has confirmed speculation that the club is interested in re-signing Cristiano Ronaldo this summer.

The 36-year-old joined Juventus from Real in 2018 for a fee of around £99m but he’s failed to deliver the Champions League trophy that the club craves during his three years in Turin.

While that burden should not fall squarely on Ronaldo’s shoulders, his signing was seen as the final piece of the jigsaw for the Serie A giants.

However, Juventus were knocked out by Porto earlier this week, raising question marks over Ronaldo’s future in Italy.

In addition, the zealous football star has one year to run on his deal and the club risks losing him on a free transfer next summer if they fail to extend his deal.

The Portugal captain is said to be analysing his future at the club as he’s acutely aware that time is running out to add to his trophy collection, with Juventus likely to miss out on the title to Inter Milan. Real Madrid has sorely missed the 36-year-old since his departure and speculation was rife this week following Juventus’ exit from the European Cup that the La Liga giants could look at re-signing Ronaldo.

And Zidane has confirmed that there’s an element of truth in the reports, with the Frenchman talking up speculation that Ronaldo could return to the Bernabeu.

Asked if there’s any truth in the reports about Ronaldo, Zidane said: ‘Yes, there may be.

‘We know Cristiano, we know the person he is and everything he has done here. ‘But now he’s a Juventus player and we must respect this. ‘Now, let’s see what the future will be. I was lucky enough to coach him and he is very impressive. Right now, he’s helping Juventus.’
