The legendary handsome actor was born as Margaret Yvonne Middleton on September 1, 1922 in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada. His mother had nicknamed Carlo “Peggy” after the silent film star “Baby Peggy”. She was born as the daughter of Marie De Carlo and William Shelto Middleton. His father was a salesman from New Zealand. When she was three years old, her father fled Canada due to various scams and since then there has been no news from her father.

At first, she wanted to pursue a career in writing. At age seven, she entered the contest organized by “The Vancouver Sun” where she won five dollars for the poem “A Little Boy”. She also wrote the plays and even adopted Charles Dicken’s A Christmas Carol for a neighborhood play. In 1940, she participated in the Miss Venice beauty pageant and won second place, after that fifth place at Miss California. After being noticed in the Miss Venice beauty pageant, she was called up for auditions. She started with stage musical performance which she never left throughout her career.

Her first screen role was an uncredited role of a bathing beauty in a Columbia Pictures B-movie “Harvard, Here I Come” in 1941. In 1942, she began working for Paramount Pictures and played a small role in “Luck Jordan”. With the production house, she notably held unbilled roles in “Here Comes the Waves” and “Bring the Girls”.

Later, she tested for Universal the exotic glamor girl for the Technicolor film ‘Salome, Where She Danced’. She then signed a long-term contract with the production. In 1954, she got the role of “Sephora” in the epic film “The Ten Commandments” directed by Cecil B. DeMille. The film premiered in November 1956, which is the sixth highest-grossing film of all time in Canada and the United States.

In 1964-66 she joined the cast of ‘The Munsters’ as ‘Lily Munster’, the female lead opposite actor Fred Gwynne. After that, she went on to appear in an episode of ‘The Girl from UNCLE’ and ‘The Raiders’. Subsequently, she appeared in many series and films including “The Delta Factor”, “The Seven Minutes”, “American Gothic”, “Mirror Mirror”. She also appeared in Sylvester Stallone’s comedy “Oscar” as her Aunt Rosa. Her final performance was as Norma in the 1995 TV movie ‘The Barefoot Executive’.

Coming to her personal life, she was once married to stuntman Robert Drew Morgan. They were married on November 21, 1955, at St. Stephen’s Episcopal Church in Reno, Nevada and became the mother of stepdaughter Bari Lee. Together they had welcomed two sons; Bruce Ross and Michael.

Prior to her marriage to Robert, she was linked to a number of popular guys. She announced her engagement to actor Howard Duff in 1947 but never married. Later, she was engaged to three other men: Scottish actor Richard Urquhart, English photographer Cornel Lucas and Stuntman Jock Mahoney. She got pregnant while in a relationship with Mahoney. Later, she was diagnosed with the large ovarian cyst. After having the tumor surgically removed, she also lost her baby. After that, she caught Mahoney having a relationship with actress Margaret Field, as a result, she walked away from the stuntman.
