Youssef Chahed (in Arabic: Youssef Chahed ), né le September 18, 1975 in Tunis, is a Tunisian statesman, 15TH head of government of independent Tunisia since August 27, 2016. He is an agricultural engineer, researcher, university professor and member of NIDAA Tounes since September 2013. Author of several reports and publications scientists, Youssef Chahed works in particular on the supervision of agricultural projects with a view to strengthening trade between Tunisia and the United States and also as an international expert in agriculture and agricultural policies with many international organizations including the USDA and the Commission European.

University career
- 2003 to 2009, Youssef Chahed is professor of agricultural economics at the Higher Institute of Agriculture LaSalle de Beauvais

Political career
- After the 2011 revolution, Chahed was one of the founding members of the Al Joumhouri1 party, founded on April 9, 2012. He then joined Nidaa Tounes, as a member of the executive bureau.
- On February 6, 2015, he was appointed Secretary of State for Fisheries, to the Minister of Agriculture, Water Resources and Fisheries, Saâd Seddik, in the government of Habib Essid.
- January 12, 2016, he becomes Minister of Local Affairs in this same government
- On May 25, he presents, less than a year from the municipal elections, a project for the generalization of municipalities, which provides for the creation of 61 new municipalities
- On August 1, he was proposed by President Béji Caïd Essebsi to succeed Habib Essid at the head of a government of national unity.
- On August 3, President Béji Caïd Essebsi appoints Chahed to form a new government.

In the process, he carried out a ministerial reshuffle and, on March 3, announced the abolition of the Ministry of Public Service and Governance. Some observers see this reshuffle as an opportunity to name relatives of the Ennahdha party
- May 23, he kicks off a major anti-corruption operation beginning with the arrest of Chafik Jarraya followed by those of several other businessmen such as Yassine Channoufi and Samir El Wafi. This initiative, prepared in secret for several months, is provoking a wave of support and favorable opinions from Tunisians. In this regard, he declares that he will go to the end of this war against corruption, which has significant economic costs for the country
- In August 2017, during a television broadcast, Rached Ghannouchi, president of the Islamist party Ennahdha, announced that he did not want Chahed to stand as a candidate in the 2019 presidential election. This declaration which “urges Youssef Chahed to announce his no -candidate for the presidential election of 2019” launches the debate around the candidacy of the latter
