Young Dolphin is an American rapper, best known for his debut studio album, King of Memphis (2016), which peaked at number 5 on the Billboard rap chart and 9th on the Billboard R&B/Hip-Hop chart. He released 3 more studio albums after the recognition he got – Bulletproof (2017), a collaborative studio album Pursuit Number (2017) as well as Think Out Loud (2017) which peaked at 9th on Billboard R&B/Hip-Hop chart and 8th on Billboard rap chart. His fifth album, titled Exemplar (2018), was a little less successful, peaking at number 11 on theBillboard R&B/Hip-Hop Chart and 9th on the Billboard R&B/Hip-Hop Rap Chart in the same year. He also released a solo EP titled Niggas Gets Shot Every Day on February 16, 2018.

Young Dolph released his debut studio album King of Memphis on February 19, 2016 under his own record label Papierweg Reich . It consisted of 11 tracks – Facts , F*ck It , Royalty, Both Ways , United States Of America , How Could , On The Way , Let Me See It , It’s Going Down , True Life , and Getting Paid , the most famous song and the only single for the album, was released a week before the album itself. The album peaked at number 49 in the US, according to Billboard200 chart this year.

  1. He was born in Chicago, Illinois but moved to Memphis, Tennessee with his family when he was 2 years old.
  2. Young Dolph witnessed his parents smoking crack, which inspired the lyrics for his hit track Sermons .
  3. He was raised by his grandmother, who died of lung cancer in 2008. The other grandmother took care of his two sisters in Chicago, Illinois.
  4. Young Dolph has wanted to make money since he was enrolled in elementary school. He promised himself that he would get his parents out of the hood as soon as possible.
  5. He had a near death experience the same year his grandmother died (2008) when he got into a nasty car accident. Both incidents inspired Young Dolph to rap as a form of emotional release.
  6. He claimed Yo Gotti tried to sign him to his CMG imprint record label, but he declined. Young Dolph didn’t like the way Yo Gotti treated the people he signed, nor was he willing to give up the $3 million he’d invested in his own record label.
  7. Young Dolph nearly lost his life in a shooting in Charlotte, North Carolina, in early 2017. According to police, around 100 rounds were fired, hitting nearby vehicles and homes. He was not injured and his rival, rapper Yo Gotti, has been accused of having something to do with it.
  8. When asked how he managed to survive over 100 rounds fired, he said his SUV car was bulletproof and that he paid around $300,000 to secure it. He also used the unfortunate event to promote his studio album entitled Bulletproof , released on April 1, 2017.
  9. On September 26, 2017, he was shot multiple times in Los Angeles, California. Young Dolph was reportedly in critical condition but survived and Yo Gotti was a person of interest once again.
  10. While recovering, he filmed parts of the music video for the song Believe Me at the Los Angeles Hospital.
  11. Young Dolph turned down offers of up to $12 million from major record labels but said he remains open to options going forward.
