- His mother became pregnant with him when he was 15 years old. She gave birth to Yelawolf when she was only 16 years old herself.
- He got into hip hop at the age of 6 after his mother’s boyfriend bought him licensed for Ill , the Beastie Boys debut album, and the Run-DMC single Mein Adidas.
- He started smoking weed around the age of 11 or 12. However, he claims he has never smoked crack in his life. By the time he was 18, he stopped using drugs altogether after enduring pretty bad trips from drinking shrooms and acid.
- He started writing rap when he was studying in the 5 th grade. However, he didn’t start rapping until 2007.
- Before he started rapping, he tried his hand at professional skateboarding. However, he found that he did not have sufficient skills to compete at the professional level and therefore did not pursue them.
- After quitting skateboarding, he went to Alaska with a friend in 2001 to try his hand at fishing. After just one season, he changed his mind as he couldn’t make a decent amount from the company.
- After returning from Alaska, he tried to experiment with selling drugs, but also failed to make much money from it.
- In 2012 he founded his independent record label Slumerican, which mainly focuses on hip hop music. The label is based in Nashville.
