Yahaya Bello Dodges EFCC Arrest with Ododo’s Help
Former Kogi State Governor, Yahaya Bello, reportedly evaded arrest by operatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) on Wednesday, with assistance from his successor, Governor Usman Ododo.
The EFCC attempted to apprehend Bello at the Kogi State Government Lodge in Abuja over an alleged N80.2 billion fraud case.
Despite the operation, Ododo allegedly used his governorship immunity to shield Bello from arrest, similar to an incident in April where he was also said to have aided Bello’s escape during an EFCC raid.
An EFCC official explained, “Yahaya Bello has not been arrested. The Kogi State governor prevented operatives from doing their work yesterday just like he did the other time. He took him away, and our men could not do anything because of the immunity he (Ododo) is enjoying.”
Efforts to reach EFCC spokesperson Dele Oyewale were unsuccessful, as calls and messages were not answered.
Similarly, Ohaire Michael, the Director of Bello’s media team, could not be reached, as his phone was switched off.
This development followed a visit by both Bello and Ododo to the EFCC headquarters, after which the commission denied having Bello in custody.
The commission’s spokesperson stated that Bello was not detained, despite claims from his media team.
