Alright folks it’s that time again if we have the pleasure to learn who was the highest paid celebrity of the past year? It inspires the sense of awe, jealousy, and inspiration in our mortal mind that is more than often associated with the monotonous and dreary daily challenges that our ordinary lives tend to confront at times.

And the list was once again compiled by the reputable Forbes magazine, so the results are as accurate as you’ll find anywhere. I usually like to tease a bit before revealing who the winner is, or shall we say, the top-grossing powerhouse. Usually you have to read the whole article or at least scroll to the end. But Mayweather’s highly publicized fight in Las Vegas with Manny Pacquiao left no doubt as to who had the most money in the bank in 2015.

So read on to see who follows Mayweather and Pacquiao in the list.

  1. Floyd Mayweather Jr.

Earnings: $300M, athlete, boxing

The “moneyman” shattered all records by earning $300 million a year, beating the previous record by a mile. The previous record was held by Tiger Woods, who earned $115 million in 2008. His fight against Manny Pacquiao on May 2 not only consolidated Floyd’s status as top boxer, but also broke existing financial records for multiple boxes, including PPV buys (4.4 million). Total Gate ($73M) and Sponsorships ($13M). The fight reportedly netted more than $600 million in earnings, accounting for all revenue streams. Given the staggering amount of money he makes from his fights, it’s no surprise that Floyd typically shuns endorsement deals.

Floyd has already begun teasing his fans and the public about his next possible opponent for the match, which may be his last career fight before retiring. It will also be the last fight of the six-fight deal he signed with Show Time in 2013.

  1. Manny Pacquiao

Earnings: $160M, athlete, boxing

The 2nd MainFight also marked a career high payday for Filipino boxer Manny Pacquiao. The $125 million he earned from his fight against Floyd Mayweather was four times what he had earned in a previous boxing match. His earnings also include $23 million earned for his November fight against Chris Algieri. Manny, who is the first and only eight-division world champion, supplements his fight earnings with endorsement deals with Nike, Foot Locker, Wonderful Pistachios and Nestle’s Butterfinger. Manny is also an icon in his home country, the privilege he enjoys increasing his income by promoting local businesses. He also acts in some television shows in the Philippines. Currently, the Philippine Congressman is out due to a rotator cuff injury,

  1. Katy Perry

Earnings: $135 million, musician

Katy Perry is the highest-earning female musician and entertainer in this year’s list. In recent years, she has steadily improved her ranking in the Forbes list. On the 2013 Forbes list for “Top-Earning Women in Music” at $39 million, she ranked seventh and fifth in 2014 with $40 million. And this year, she’s finally managed to hit the pinnacle as long as it’s about women and artists. She owes her high position on this list above all to the immense success of the Prismatic World Tour. During the Forbes scoring phase, she has earned more than $2 million per city over the course of 126 shows, 75 of which were overseas. Also, she is reported to have raked in $20 per capita in merchandise sales during those shows. My math is a bit weak so I can’t tell you the exact amount, but rest assured this is more than enough to make the past year the best-ever year for success-maker Teenage Dream. She also has high profile endorsement deals with Coty, Claire and Covergirl. And her new Perry game is due this fall, too.

His return from semi-retirement last year was extremely successful, at least in terms of money made. The world tour, which he began with a performance at the Allstate Arena in Rosemont, Illinois, was extremely popular and successful. He’s raked in well over $1 million on every stop. This high earnings is partly due to him playing back-to-back series on the same night in the same arena.

  1. James Patterson

James Patterson continues to revise the records of book sales and author earnings. And he continues to publish books at a rate of at least 15 books a year. Last year (2014) he published 16 books with the help of co-authors. Since publishing his first novel, The Thomas Berryman Number, in 1976, he is said to have sold more than 300 million copies worldwide. He has issued 19 consecutive No. 1 New York Times bestsellers. He also holds the Guinness World Record for best-selling hardcover fiction titles with 76 bestsellers.

Over the years, Patterson has shaped the types of books he publishes and has successfully delved into the children’s genre. He has sold more than 30 million young adult novels and is known for having more New York Times bestsellers for children than any other living author. On several occasions, Patterson has raised concerns about children’s literacy. To address the problem, in 2015 he announced the launch of a children’s book imprint, which will publish 8 to 12 children’s books a year.

  1. Cristiano Ronaldo

Revenue: $79.5M, Athlete, Soccer

Those who follow football passionately would know that Cristiano Ronaldo has had a less than ideal year in terms of professional accomplishments. Yes, he scored a staggering 61 goals that season, 48 of which came in La Liga . As a result, he won the Pichichi as top scorer in Spain for the second year in a row and also clinched the European Golden Boot as the most productive player in the competition for a record fourth time. However, it would have been frustrating for the Portuguese star to see his rival Lionel Messi in a fantastic threesome with Barcelona. And so will the realization that based on his performances, Messi will seal his fifth Ballons d’Or.

However, there is one area where he has once again prevailed over his rival and that is the highest earning footballer. His annual base salary of €17 million (after tax), which increases to over $50 million after bonuses and image rights, makes him the highest paid player in the sport. His good looks and strong social media presence (105 million Facebook and 37 million Twitter followers) have helped him land mega sponsorship deals with Nike, Samsung, Emporio Armani, Toyota and Tag Heuer.
