Wizkid is no doubt the greatest African showman, he pioneered the afrobeat genre on the international scene. He is the longest-charting African artist in Billboard history and the best-selling artist on the continent. He holds other records such as the longest charting African song, the first platinum song in Africa and many more. Wizkid was however able to achieve this feat and kick start the afrobeat global campaign through certain collaborations with some of the biggest international stars on the scene. In celebration of these milestones, we have compiled a list of the wizkid’s top 10 international collaborations.

1. One Dance – Drake ft Wizkid and Kyla

Drake’s One Dance is not just the song that brought Wizkid into global prominence but also his most successful international collaboration. The song was released on April 5, 2016, as a single from Drake’s fourth studio album Views. It reached number one in 15 countries chart, including the United Kingdom, and the United States.

One Dance topped the US Billboard Hot 100 for 10 weeks and spent 15 weeks on the UK Singles. It was the best-performing single worldwide in 2016 and one of the best-selling digital singles of all time, with over 16 million units sold worldwide.

2. Essence (Remix) – Wizkid ft Tems and Justin Bieber

Essence remix ft Tems and Justin Bieber takes second place among Wizkid’s top 10 best international collaborations. The song was released on 13 August 2021. It is the first Nigerian song in history to chart on the Billboard Hot 100 and the Billboard Global 200. The song received a nomination at the 64th Annual Grammy Awards for Best Global Music Performance.

Essence is the first African song to go Platinum in the United States and Canada. It also earned a  Gold Certification in the United Kingdom and New Zealand. Essence was the song of the summer all over the world and the best song of 2021 according to Rolling Stone.

3. Come Closer – Wizkid ft Drake

Come Closer is Wizkid’s third official collaboration with Drake and one of his best international collaborations to date. The song was released on the 31st of March 2017, as the third single from Wizkid’s third studio album, Sounds from the Other Side. It is the  most commercially successful track on the album

The song peaked at number 58 on the UK Singles Chart and 54 on the Canadian Hot 100, becoming Wizkid’s first charting single as a lead artist. It is also charted in France, Netherland, Switzerland the United States. It was the best-performing African record of 2017, with Gold certification in the United States and the United Kingdom.

4. Brown skin Girl – Beyonce, Saint Jhn, Wizkid ft Blue Ivy

Beyonce’s Brown Skin Girl did not just win Wizkid his first Grammy award but also makes one of his best international collaborations. The song was released on July 23, 2019, as the second single from the 2019 soundtrack album The Lion King: The Gift. It peaked no 76 on the billboard hot 100 and topped the US Rolling Stone Top 100 and the Billboard World Digital Song Sales chart.

The song also received numerous awards, including the Soul Train Music Award and the BET HER Award. The video won the award for Best Music Video at the 63rd Annual Grammy Awards, as well as the Soul Train Music Award for Video of the Year and the MTV Video Music Award for Best Cinematography.

5. Call me every day – Chris Brown ft Wizkid

Call me every day is Wizkid’s most recent collaboration and no doubt one of his best, prior to the release on Friday 17th June 2022, the snippet of the song made waves on different social media platforms. The song is the lead single released off Chris Brown’s 10th studio album titled ‘Breezy.’  The song officially made its debut on the Apple Music Top Songs Nigeria Chart at number 2 shortly after its release on Friday, June 17, 2022.

The song is presently dominating various charts across the world including the Billboard hot 100 where it debuted in the 76th spot. It is also charting on the UK, Netherland, New Zealand and South Africa Single chart, presently peaked at 53, 16 10 16 respectively.

6. Energy – Skepta & Wizkid

Skepta & Wizkid are definitely one of the best duos in terms of international collaborations. The duo have numerous hits together but their most notable song is Energy. The song was released on 20 June 2018 and it debuted at number 73 on the UK Singles Chart but reached a peak of number 59 following the release of its music video in September.

The song spent a total of 15 weeks on the UK Singles chart and also charted on the UK Hip Hop/R&B peaking at no 37. Aside from its chart success, Energy has been certified Gold by the British Phonographic Industry (BPI) after selling 400k units in the United Kingdom.

7. Mamacita – Tinie Tempah ft Wizkid

“Mamacita” is a song by British rapper Tinie Tempah featuring Wizkid. It was released on 8 July 2016, as the third single from his third studio album, Youth (2017). It charted in the United Kingdom, Scotland and Ireland, peaking at 45, 43 and 71 respectively.

The song’s music video premiered on 4 July 2016, via Tempah’s official YouTube channel. It was directed by Craig Moore and was filmed in the Dominican Republic. With over 200,000 units sold in the United Kingdom, Mamacita has been certified silver by the British Phonographic Industry (BPI).

8. African Bad Gyal – Wizkid ft Chris Brown

African bad Gyal featuring Chris Brown also makes one of Wizkid’s best international collaborations. It was the fourth lead single for Wizkid’s third studio album, Sound from the Other Side. The song was released alongside the pre-order of the album on June 9, 2017.

The Song spent 43 weeks on the local chart, peaking at no 3 on Nigeria’s Radio chart. The song was produced by Sarz and is one best international collaborations in the Nigerian music industry.

9. My Love – Wale ft Major  Lazer Wizkid &  Dua Lipa

Wale’s My Love featuring Major Lazer, Wizkid & Dua Lipa is one of Wizkid’s best international collaborations. The song was the fifth track off Wale’s fifth studio album, Shine (an abbreviation of Still Here Ignoring Negative Energy), which was released on April 28, 2017.

According to Kworb.net, The song charted in eight countries including Canada, the United States and the United Kingdom. It peaked at 87 in the United Kingdom, 99 in Canada and 189 in the United States. My love may not be as commercially successful as other songs on this list but is one of Wizkid’s most critical acclaim collaborations.

10. Shabba – Wizkid ft. Chris Brown, Trey Songz and French Montana

Shabba was one of Wizkid’s first major international collaborations. The track featured prominent international singers like Trey Songz, Chris Brown and French Montana. The song was released on the 1st of July 2016 and has since then taken its place as one of Wizkid’s best collaborations
