Wizkid Wins African Artist Of The Year At The Apple Music Award

International Nigerian Singer, Ayodeji Balogun popularly known as Wizkid has won the African Artist Of the year at the third annual Apple Music Award.

The singer has been the most played African artist on Apple Music on the continent, ranking on the Daily Top 100 charts in 60 countries, and his monthly plays on Apple Music have increased by more than 250 per cent outside of Africa, according to Apple.

The Nigerian singer has also been included on Apple Music’s Today’s Hits and R&B Now playlists, as well as on Apple Music Radio shows like “Africa Now Radio,” “The Ebro Show,” “New Music Daily with Zane Lowe,” and “Ovo Sound Radio,” according to the music portal.

The Apple Music Awards recognize achievements in music across five categories namely, Artist of the Year, Songwriter of the Year, Breakthrough Artist of the Year, Top Song of the Year, and Top Album of the Year, and winners are chosen through a process that takes into account Apple Music’s editorial perspective as well as what customers around the world are listening to the most.

Wizkid after receiving the honour said; “Thank you to Apple Music for this award, it’s a blessing to get to do what I do, and I’m proud to be representing for Africa.”

Recall that the singer has been in the mainstream after releasing his Widely accepted album which has generated him a lot of streams, charts, nominations and even awards

The singer alongside Tems won the ‘Best Collaboration category’ at the 2021 Soul Train Awards for their hit song ‘Essence’, which was held at Apollo Theater, New York, on Sunday.
